Random facts about The Nightshade Assassin and Nightshades for Midna

✿ As you already know, I named the main character Cortana because I was still a Halo fanatic and was still mourning after Cortana's death xD

❀ Kaito is named after my favourite Vocaloid, Kaito Shion. I wasn't immersed in the lore of Skyrim back then, so in the middle of writing my fanfic, I wanted to change it but you all know I'm lazy ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

✿ Cortana's appearance is based on a mod called SR Elf Followers. The character Cortana is based off of is Ilta, who is tall and has a low, mature voice (three things Cortana is not). You can find the mod on Nexusmods.

❀ Kaito's appearance and personality was first based off of Tsumugu Kihara.

✿ The title of The Nightshade Assassin was first The Dark Brotherhood Forever, which was then changed to Hello? Hell...o?

❀ I got the name Hello? Hell...o? from a PC game like Mad Father, Ib, The Witches House.

✿ The chapter "Kaito and the Dragon Tongue" was first the ending of the Witch's House for a reference, but I changed it to Cortana and Lucien raiding a bandit camp for a contract.

❀ Mikasa was based off of Mikasa Ackerman, and every time I see it I cringe. Let's be honest, none of my character names are lore-based. Sigh.

✿ Mikasa's death was a mixture of Clannad (field of flowers with Ushio), Air (Misuzu walking towards her aunt), and Angel Beats (Hatsune dying on the back of Otonashi.)

❀ The song Kaito sang when he was about 14 before Mikasa died was Ven's Theme, by Lizz on YouTube.

✿ "Fit for a Killer" had a couple of references. One was the corset scene from Black Butler Season 1 Episode 4, and which readers nickname Kaito's statements "Kaito's subtlety" is based off of Usui Takumi where he tells a high school girl about his maid fetish. (Kaito's a natural at being blunt and subtle!)

❀ The chapter name "A Smile as Red as Blood" is based off of a chapter in A Tale Dark and Grimm.

✿ There is a scene in "Contract Hunting," where Cortana makes a line quoting Ciel Phantomhive to Commander Maro, to which he replies that all Cortana needs is an eyepatch and a Dremora Butler. Ciel Phantomhive's line is from Black Butler, where he is having a duel with Alois Trancy.

❀ Since Skyrim is a mediaeval-like province, they probably didn't have toothpaste or toothbrushes. Meaning that since Cortana loves sweets, her teeth were probably not exactly white. However, in the mediaeval times, people chewed twigs to clean their teeth. With all the alchemy ingredients they maybe did have something to brighten their teeth or freshen up their breath.

✿ The faint purple tint in Cortana's curly hair is a personal memory and reference for me, of when my previous character had dark purple hair.

❀ There is a hidden phrase in Don't Kill the Gourmet, Trust in the Chef, Kaito and the Dragon Tongue, Just Dance, and Fight!

✿ The secret phrase in the chapter names was to scare my readers a bit, because in the original ending, I was going to have Kaito betray the Dark Brotherhood.

❀ In Fight! Part 2, Cortana's outbursts was a reference to Juniper's Knot, of where Fiend gets angry at the boy.

✿ I totally didn't imagine Cicero being Cortana's older and insane brother. It just happened because I had a writer's block, so I mentioned Cortana's father had red hair, like Cicero.

❀ I wrote Late Birthday Present to cheer up the readers after the depressing chapters.

✿ My second original ending was going to have Kaito leave Cortana to fulfill his duties as Dragonborn, but then there'd be no sequel. So, I created Midna.

❀ Mikasa said to Kaito to find a woman with at least the same hair length. Midna has Mikasa's hair. You can see the picture I drew of her in Nightshades for Midna.

✿  In another original ending, Kaito was the one that was going to die.

❀ Cortana and Kaito (maybe Midna) will make an appearance in my other Skyrim story "Life in Skyrim," a SAO x Skyrim crossover. They will most likely be Players.

✿ I didn't get Midna's name off the Legend of Zelda; in fact, I didn't even know there was a character named Midna. I got the name off a book on Fanfiction.net.

❀ Cortana's last name is Amaranthine, if you didn't know. It means everlasting and undying, and also can be a synonym for purple. Hint hint.

✿ I will include Midna in Nightshade Oneshots when Nightshades for Midna is completed.

❀ The "Let's stay together forever" line made by Cortana in "Separation" is a small reference to Sword Art Online, a sentence Asuna whispers in Kirito's ear when he's asleep. Asuna scoots back when he wakes up, but Cortana falls backwards and lands on the floor at the end of the bed.

✿ Midna's eye is gone because when I drew her, it wasn't originally Midna, it was another character I was drawing. When I started writing Nightshades for Midna, I just used her as Midna.

❀ The original name of Nightshades for Midna was Where the Nightshades Grow.

✿ Amis's lines "You're a dick," is from YuGiOh Abridged, even if that derogatory meaning probably wasn't used in the Fourth Era 201.

❀ Midna acts like a 10 year old instead of a 5 year old. I'll make corrections to her psychology and mind of a child.

✿ The scene in A Smile as Red as Blood where Cortana is in the meadow behind her home with her parents has some references of Kotomi's past from Clannad.

❀ In A Smile as Red as Blood, young Cortana states that she'd venture with the Dragonborn some day, like in the stories.

✿ Since Cortana doesn't have the golden skin, I'm just going to be lazy and classify her as an albino.

❀ Kaito's past where his mother gets eaten by Skeevers while they're out is a reference to Lund's Hut, where there are skeevers throughout Lund's home. The slaughter of his father is based on a documentary I saw.
