Chapter 30.5 - After the Red-Eyed Monster

"You also won't able to lie to me," he tells me, and smiles softly. "Do you love me?"

Averting my eyes away from him, I lock my fingers together, staring at my feet.

"Yes..."

After staring at the mutilated Alva for a couple of more seconds, Kaito breaks the silence. Did I really admit that I love him? Ha, no. That was a lie.

"This is worse than what you did in Whiterun," he decides to say, peeling his eyes from the body.

Confused, I take my eyes off Alva's corpse to look at Kaito. "What did I do there? I don't remember anything."

He chuckles a bit, knuckles over his mouth to laugh at me. "Back when you tried baking Apple Pie. You murdered Carlotta because I was the only man she liked."

I blink, speechless for a second. "Y-You... You saw that?" I whisper incredulously, cheeks darkening to pink. Suddenly, I raise my hands defensively, shaking them. "I didn't kill Carlotta because of you! I didn't even know you were there, I-I just murdered her because someone suddenly wanted her dead while I was in Whiterun. That's all!"

The Dragonborn pretends he's thinking for a moment, smiling slightly in delight. "Right. So I didn't hear you say 'Kaito is mine' after you dumped Carlotta's body in the sewers?"

I pause, my face reddening with every second he mentions that day. "You were just hearing things!" Wait, I didn't say that, did I?

He laughs again. "I believe you. Maybe I was just hearing things too when you said 'you'll never have Kaito.'"

He heard all of that? I remember saying those words but... I was sure I was alone! My face is so hot, steam could probably shoot from my ears. "You pervert, like I'd ever say that!" I shout furiously, raising my fist in the air. It isn't like I'll really hit him, but I really do want to.

As my clenched fist swings towards his chest, he reaches his own hand towards mine and wraps his fingers around my wrist without harming me. "Let's go, we've been in here too long," he says as he counters my attack like it was nothing. "We'll rent a room at the Moorside Inn."

Kaito grabs his cloak to wrap around me and mask the bloodstains on my hands and clothes. He pulls my wrist as we rush out of her home, the guards giving us odd stares. Hopefully they don't know which direction we came from.

I was able to use a hot bath for another ten septims to wash away all the blood sticking to my skin. Half hour later, I'm changed into new clothes the inn has to offer with no more red fluid on myself.

Now Kaito and I are sitting in our room, which has separate beds, mind you. A drawer is between them, with a barrel of apples by the door. I couldn't help but laugh when I found out Kaito requested that.

He opens his mouth and delightfully sinks his teeth in the juicy tartness of the fruit. He really does love apples. Meanwhile, I'm taking a sweetroll off a plate and biting into it. I'm nowhere near healthy as him, it's a little concerning.

Bored, I listen in to the conversations beyond the wooden door. There isn't much since the tavern is usually empty, but there's all sorts of gossip between two to three people.
