arlette's povi thought about it. name her? its good advice. but what was she? well, she was in the dark, or a shadow. hmmm, words that have to do with shadow... then, it clicked.
"i have a name," josh nodded, "umbra." he tilted his head to the side. "it means a shadow, or in complete darkness, like in an eclipse." he nodded. we sat in silence for a minute before josh spoke up.
"you know, i took french for like, two years, and i figured out people's names, you know? like i translated them and stuff," she nodded. "so, i just figured out your name." he looked up from his lap and into me eyes.
"well, say it!" i was now interested; languages and translations have always fascinated me.
he chuckled and whispered, "little eagle."
i sighed, "cute. like really cute." i tugged at my shirt nervously. he then fell onto the bed and closed his eyes. he was cute. i watched his chest rise and fall as he breathed steadily. he was fun to look at. i noticed very little things about him, like the way his right eye twitches a little, or how his shirt rises up and shows a tiny bit of his stomach. i liked those things about him. little things.
i laid down next to him, staring at my ceiling fan. it felt weird to actually be next to a boy. i felt uncomfortable. i felt his eyes on me and i shifted my body. i didn't like it when people looked at me too much. it sounds weird, but i simply do not like the attention. and now, to have someone admiring me, made me feel more awkward than ever. i mean, the doctors at the hospital cared about me, but made sure to give me just enough attention. they seemed to know about my problems like they were their own, and even that made me feel weird. they knew everything about me. i felt invaded at the hospital. oh well, at least i'm out of there now.
josh's pov
i couldn't stop looking at her. i could tell it was making her squirmy, but i couldn't stop. now was the perfect time to gaze and notice little things. she had really small hands and she had one vein popping out of her left hand. she had a long, thick scar on the back of her hand and her knuckles were more pink than the rest of her hand. her wrists were small, and i could see some white lines. the big t-shirt she was wearing covered all of her arm but her forearm. her eyes were closed and her face, relaxed. i felt my phone buzz in my pocket, and i took it out to see a text from mark.
come out and bring ar
i nudged her, and her eyes slowly blinked open. she fell asleep. what an angel. i showed her my phone screen and she smiled and slowly got up off her bed, bringing me with her.
