"Oh no, oh no no no. She's going to kill me!" whispered a girl's voice. "Katherine?" Madeline asked. She walked stood up to see Heather's so-called 'best friend', Katherine. "Who's going to kill you? What's wrong?" Madeline said, walking over to her.

"Can't you see?! Heather asked me to send her prom dress to the dry-cleaners but they messed up and now it shrunk! She's going to murder me!" cried Katherine, as her overapplied mascara raced against tears  down her face. "Isn't she your best friend? I'm sure she'll understand." said Madeline, trying to calm the crying girl down.

"Are you joking?! Once, in the third grade, I accidentally spilled grape juice over a shirt she lent me and she didn't talk to me for five months! If my mom hadn't found a way to get the stain out, she would've never taken me back as a friend!" she said through her tears.

"Then why are you still friends with her?" Madeline asked. "She knows all of my secrets! If I were to stop being friends with her, she would ruin me and tell everyone everything!" she said, flailing her arms.

"Just buy her a new dress." said Madeline. "Seriously?! That dress cost $10,000 and it was custom made!" Katherine said, sobbing. "Sorry, but I don't have anymore ideas." Madeline shrugged. "It doesn't matter either way! My life as I know it is over! Just leave me here!" she said, turning away.

Madeline walked away from her and willed herself to wake up. By the time she had fully regained consciousness, the sun was setting. Might as well get something to eat, she thought as she walked into her minuscule kitchen, which connected to her living room and her bedroom door. "Yum, frozen pizza for dinner." she said sarcastically as she heated the pizza up in the microwave. After she had finished eating, brushed her teeth and went to bed.
