"Hello, love."

That voice sounded familiar. There was that little trace of an accent. Shit. The voice sounded like‐

The song reached a crescendo and suddenly his hand was twirling me around again. He stopped my spins with a hand on my lower back, and before I knew what was happening, I was bent backwards, the hand at the small of my back forcing me to arch towards him. I waited as my world stopped spinning, the blurs slowly dissolving into...

A sea of blue and green eyes peered from the depths of a black mask.

He tugged my hand, and I ended pressed against his chest once again. Shit, shit, shit, shit-

"Cat got your tongue, little thief?"

Jerkface. What was his name again? Garrett. I remember one of the twins, Miles, in the coffee shop. Why the hell had I forgotten to look further into that?

"I really think you ́re stalking me now." I managed. My whole upper body was pressed against him, and annoyingly, my body wasn ́t reacting in disgust like I thought it should have been doing.

He chuckled, his breath tickling my neck. "And as I told you once before, I am following you."

I frowned, trying to remember our conversation in that prom. We ́d been dancing there too, but tonight felt different. I hadn't been this close to him before. "You said it was because you liked..." I trailed off, not really wanting to end that sentence.

"... your ass." He finished. His hand on my lower back slowly started trailing downwards. "And what a nice‐"

I stomped on his foot, making sure to hit it with my heel. He hissed in my ear, the hand holding mine tightening for a second. His other hand immediately returned to my lower back, if not a little bit higher.

"That was not nice." His voice was laced with pain.

There was one more change of partners in this song, and I was looking forward to it. Four heartbeats. Three. Two.

"Nu‐uh uh." He tsked, both of his hands tightening. "You and me have to talk."

I didn ́t turn to look, but I knew there was a couple watching us in confusion, waiting for their exchange. The song was about to end, and I still needed to get closer to the stage.

"What time is it?" I asked.

If Garrett was confused by my question, he didn ́t show it. "Ten past eleven."

"It's actually twelve past eleven." Reach told me. I made a quick calculation in my head. Two hundred and twenty‐two heartbeats. "You have to hurry Gin. I can tell Cam to go... umm... rescue you. Just say the magic words."

I'm thirsty. Those were the magic words. Before I could even consider saying them, Garrett, who was so close to my ear he heard the conversation, tensed. "Don't even consider it. I have people here too."

205 heartbeats 'till show time.

The song came to an end, and I tried to disentangle myself from him. I had only managed to take a step back, and now I had a clear view of his face. Even if the mask covered most of it, his eyes were still startling there. His lips were bordering on a smirk.
