I felt as though everything was falling apart: I was still sick, Batman/Bruce wasn’t impressed with how I ruined his night and if he didn’t show it, I know he definitely felt it, I lost Tim and my parents were still gone. Nothing I did could make anything better.

Without any idea how much time had actually passed, I woke up, my head dizzy and my stomach feeling knotted. The room was dark and smelled damp, as though there was a puddle of water that hadn’t evaporated for a few months. I could barely see anything; there was just enough light to make out a switch. Nothing more, nothing less.

“Why did you take me?” I asked softly, not bothering to freak out even the tiniest bit. If I died, it would have made things better. I wouldn’t feel any pain anymore and Tim and Bruce and Alfred and Dick wouldn’t have to worry about looking after me anymore.

“My dear, be a good girl and just follow our plan. Your lover boy will be heartbroken to see you in here, so… We’re going to be his heart-breakers,” the Joker explained, sounding very pleased with himself. Harley was giggling next to him. I rolled my eyes. If Tim was smart, he’d know the best thing to do would be to make sure he didn’t come near me.

“Good luck with that…” I teased, fidgeting a little on whatever I was strapped on to. It was cold and metal, like a slab, so I guessed that it probably was a slab or a table.

With a tsk, Joker moved closer to me, putting his head over my face so that I could see it in the light.

“This plan will work. He can’t be without you. It’s sickening, really, but it’s the truth. Anyhoo, when Robin gets here…” he started before I scoffed and laughed at him.

“You really think this is going to work? He’s not going to rescue me. If he does, he’s an idiot because he should be helping Batman…” I taunted Joker at his plan, whispering the last sentence to myself.

“Okay. Shut up. You’re really starting to get on my nerves!” Joker started getting annoyed, moving closer to me and raising his hand to me.

“Don’t you dare touch her!” a familiar voice sounded from near me.

The idiot had fallen into the Joker’s trap.

“Oh, look who it is! Boy Blunder here to ruin the day! What a delight!” Joker exclaimed in excitement, sending a shiver down my spine. Something made my spine tingle as I watched Joker back away slowly from me, not losing sight of Robin.

Moving closer to me, Robin asked if I was alright as he started to loosen the straps that bound me to the cold surface.

“Why are you here?” I asked, punching Robin’s arm in anger. With a look of confusion, Robin merely told me that he was here to save me.

“Why? That’s exactly what the Joker wants and you just gave it to him! Leave now, before we all get in trouble…” I exclaimed, tears forming in my eyes.

“I won’t leave you! I won’t! No matter what you say, I’ll make sure you come home…” With a slight smile, I looked into Robin’s eyes and cupped his cheek in my hand.

“Robin… All I’ve been is trouble from the very beginning. You let me stay with you, but have been forced to care for me like I was a little child, barely able to take care of herself…. All the pain I’ve gone through, I’ve put you through too… I don’t want to see you suffer any longer… Please, leave…” spoke I, tears filling my eyes and my heart being like a jackhammer in my chest. I could see tears starting to form in Tim’s eyes.

“No… You can’t do this… We can work it out… I don’t want you to suffer anymore, but I don’t trust what Joker’ll do to you…” Robin whispered in my ear, “I love you too much to let you die…”

Those words rang through my head like a bullet. If they were the last words I would hear, I wouldn’t mind.

“Come now, you’ve had enough time!” Joker screeched, injecting Robin with a vial of a strange liquid. From where I was lying, it was difficult to see what it could have been, but after a few seconds, I realised it was probably the same chemical which I had in my blood stream. Robin squealed out in pain, feeling the toxin infiltrate his body, but trying not to let it overtake him.

~~~.~~~
After a few minutes of watching Robin squirming, trying to free himself of the painful toxin, Joker decided to pull another slab up next to me and strap Robin to that, not bothering how much it hurt him. I stared at Joker, the idea of how a person could be so cruel running through my mind. What traumatic event caused him to be the sadistic, psychotic maniac that he was? People had their thoughts, but no one would ever really find out the truth.
“Well, now, seeing that’s we’re all comfortable now, we’ll options for life and death. Long story short, you two have both got the same toxin in you and I’ve only got one antidote. So, choose amongst yourselves. But I need the answer in twenty seconds. Start the debate!” Joker exclaimed, prancing around the room like a happy deer. A psychotic, green, purple, red and white, happy deer.
Looking to my left, I saw Robin lying on the slab next to me, barely able to hold onto reality.
“You have to hold on, Tim… We’ll get through this… Gotham needs you more than it needs me. You can get the antidote…” I decided. Tim stared at me wide-eyed, seemingly unable to speak. Soon enough, the Joker returned with Harley at his side, clutching a vial filled with a green chemical and syringe.
“Have you two lovebirds decided?” he asked kindly. Of course he would ask kindly in a situation like this; he was getting what he wanted handed to him on a silver platter.
I nodded. “Yes. Robin,” I answered, carefully eyeing Harley as she came closer to us. With every step, I felt things becoming more and more wrong, until eventually he stood between us, the syringe raised over my head.
“I said Robin!” I shouted, angry at Harley’s cruelty.
“I know what you said! And I ain’t said nothin’ yet! So shut ya yap and take it!” Harley spat, slamming the needle down into my arm. With a scream of pain, I fidgeted again, feeling the chemical start to take effect.
In my final few seconds of consciousness, I looked over at Robin again, this time to see him smiling. I grabbed his hand and felt myself fading.
That was the last few moments we’d spend together.
