Cayla actually making a one shot? What has the world come to? ;)
Slight trigger warning.
----------------------------------------------------Max smiled sadly as he watched some of his boyfriend of 3 years's old videos. He longed for Ohm, the one who was always by his side no matter what. Max wished that they weren't so far apart, the other side of his bed was cold and empty, the sheets seemingly untouched for the past month that his lover was not with him. He got up from his bed and grabbed his keys, driving to the nearby beach to watch the sunset.
His toes slipped through the sand as he walked along the beach, the occasional wave covering his feet like a blanket. It was relaxing. Max had been super stressed lately, after all Ohm had been needing to see the doctors to run some tests and he was worried sick. Ohm wouldn't tell Max what they were testing for, his only response being, "It doesn't matter. I'm here with you right now and that's all I care about."
Max pulled out his cellphone from his back pocket and dialed a number he knew by a heart. After a couple rings, the other line picked up.
"Hey Ohmie. How are you doing baby?" Max questioned, genuinely worried for his well being. He heard a small giggle from Ohm.
"I'm doing well. Thank you Max for worrying about me." Ohm smiled.
"I miss you so goddamn much..." Max's voice started to crack.
"Maxie, you'll see me soon." Ohm assured him.
"Really?" Max didn't hear an immediate answer after that, causing him to be worried.
He felt a tap on his right shoulder and he spun around to see who it was."Yes, really." Ohm smiled and Max gasped, dropping his phone and tacking Ohm to the sandy beach. Max reached down and passionately captured his lips, cupping his lover's cheeks. They both smiled throughout the kiss as they cherished the moment.
"How did you get here? And how did you sneak up on me without me noticing?" Max questioned him, pressing kisses all over Ohm's face.
"I flew here this morning. I wanted to see you so badly. Also, you were so absorbed in the call that you didn't realize that I was approaching from behind you," Ohm grinned and then laughed, "you nerd."
Max blushed. "Shut up," he whines, "anyways, I missed you so much baby, I'm so glad you came out here."
Ohm picks himself and Max up, intertwining his hand with Max's, which caused them both to smile feverishly. They walked hand in hand along the beach shore, the occasional wave crashing on their legs and the sunset painted orange, pink and purple. The couple approached a pier and walked to the end of it, staring at the seemingly endless sea. The air smelled like the ocean as they stood together. Ohm smiled sadly as a tear rolled down his cheek. Max glanced over to see Ohm and lightly grabbed his face to turn it towards his own.
"Ryan, what's wrong?" A worrying look on Max's face. Ohm just shook his head, still crying and smiling sadly.
"Max..." Ohm drew in a deep breath," do you remember how I was getting tested?" He gulps and his boyfriend nods. "It's much worse than they thought. They're giving me a 20% chance of living more than 6 months." Ohm squeezed Max's hand harder than he intended to, but Max didn't mind. His eyes were fixated on Ohm's face, the expression on his face turning to a shocked and sad one.
Before Max could speak, Ohm continued, "but I am going to take that 20% chance because I love you and life way too goddamn much to lose hope and give up now. I want to spend the rest of my waking moments with you," Ohm got down on one knee and pulled out a small velvet box, "I want to hold you in my arms until my last breath. So, Max Lorenzo Gonzalez, will you do the honor of marrying me?"
Max was in tears. It was all too much to process in one moment. He nodded his head vigorously. "Yes! Of course I will marry you Ohm. I will be here by your side no matter what happens, and you know that." Ohm smiles and lifts Max of the ground, spinning him around in a circle in joy. They both kiss, making this moment want to last forever.
They linked hands again and started back down the beach towards Max's apartment. "This is my fiancé, everyone!" Max shouted at nothing in particular, but still making Ohm blush furiously and smile.
The last few days that Ohm was in San Francisco was full of cuddling, kisses, and adventures. Max drove Ohm to the airport, giving Ohm one last kiss before he had to return to his home and his dog Buddy, neither of them wanting to leave each other. As Ohm boarded his plane, Max sulked back to his car, wishing that Ohm could stay in San Francisco.
Ohm and Max would talk to each other over Skype for months, some conversations being silly and casual while others being a bit more serious. One day, Max went to call Ohm and he didn't answer. Later that day he tried texting him, still no reply. Max was concerned, his fiancé is normally really good with responding to him. The next few days were full of no answers. Not even Ohm's other friends had heard from him. No messages, no collaborations, no tweets, no streams, no videos. It all stopped. Max quickly bought an airline ticket to Chicago, hoping to find some answers.
Max arrived in Chicago the next day and when he landed he immediately got a taxi to Ohm's place. He found the place to be empty, no Ohm in site. Max saw that Ohm left his phone on the table and decided to pick it up. One of the texts Ohm received was from his mother and it read, "Ryan sweetheart, I just got a call from the hospital. I'll be there with your father ASAP." Max gasped and grabbed his stuff, retrieving another taxi to get to the hospital.
When Max arrived at the front desk, he asked where Ohm would be. "How are you related to this man?" The woman behind the counter asked him.
"I'm his... Husband." Max decided not to tell her he was his fiancé, just in case they might not let him through. The woman smiled politely and nodded, telling him Ohm's room number. Before Max left down the long corridors, the woman behind the desk warned him that Ohm wasn't looking so well. Max gulped and nodded, thanking the lady for the information.
When Max opened the door to Ohm's hospital room, it was the exact opposite of what he wanted to see. Ohm lied in the hospital bed, awake but exhausted and sickly. Machines were hooked up to his now frail arms via IV's that were supplying him with God knows what.
Ohm glanced up as the door opened, his eyes widening. "Max!" His voice was quiet and coarse. Max rushed over to him, making sure to be gentle but still giving him a kiss. As Max held his hand and sat down next to him, Ohm closed his eyes and tried to relax by taking a deep breath.
"Max, the doctors say that I'm not going to make it." Ohm's words hit Max like a moving train. Max sat back in the hospital chair, looking blankly at a random wall in front of him.
"Wh-what?" Max's voice was quiet and stuttered, fear coursing through his body.
Ohm shook his head."Max, I still want my wish that I had when I proposed to you. I want you to be in my arms until my last breath." Max sobbed but nodded. Ohm scooted over to give Max room on the bed next to him. Max gently got next to Ohm, cuddling up with him and pressing his face to Ohm's chest.
Ohm did get his wish. He was confirmed dead later that night at 10:37pm with his lover still in his arms. Max knew that Ohm would be watching him, supporting him no matter what. He knew that with a heavy heart he could love again, but Ohm left a permanent mark on his heart that could never go away.
