I walked into the campsite to find 3 large tents surrounding a lit campfire and a picnic table off to the side.
"Well, this is where we were camping out for the past few days. Tomorrow we leave back for Vancouver."
All of a sudden, one more man came out from inside the tents.
"There you are! We couldn't find anything on our path so Obsidia went to go with the others," he said while unzipping the tent, "Did you guys see anyth-" He paused when he saw me, as I expected he would, and I told him to wait to explain and I would explain my story until the rest of the people he was talking about came back.
They introduced themselves to me. They told me about the nicknames they have for each other. There was Varien, then the other people who found me along with them was John who preffered Hellberg and Mike who preferred the name Stephen Walking. I was confused with the name but I just went along with it. Must be a human thing, I thought. The person that came out of the tent's name was Nick, but he preferred the name Grabbitz.
While we were waiting for the others to get back I could always see him look at me awkwardly, and I know what he was thinking. Who is this random creature thing? But I could understand why he thought that way. It also was the other way around. I was confused about all of these humans and what they do. I already wrote down "Sometimes sleep in the middle of the forest with triangular shelter. More on this later. NOTE: Stephen Walking? Find out more on the subject."
I was sitting on one of the logs they had out by the campfire. I was thinking to myself about how lucky I was to survive, land near the intended target, and have people come to the rescue. These newfound friends will sure help in the long run. I stayed thinking like this for a few minutes until I heard really soft talking and laughing. It got louder and I noticed Grabbitz, Hellberg, Varien, and Stephen walking out of the tents. They walked towards the clearing we came out of and disappeared behind the trees. I heard multiple more laughs getting louder and louder. I could hear parts of the conversation.
"Hey stephen, remember the time with quantum and the bathtub?" More laughs.
"We found something on the way we went." There was some quiet but then a whole bunch of laughs erupted from the group. "No, dude, seriously."
"Yeah right." A soft voice said. It was all quiet when they turned the corner. As expected, it stayed silent when they saw me sitting there.
"I told you," Hellberg said, "you didn't believe us though." There were many whispers within the group. What is that thing? Why is it here? Are you seeing this or am I hallucinating? "Just sit down so it can explain." Grabbitz said, eager to know.
Thus, they all sat down and I stood up so I could explain. I started with some words that made them gasp. "I come from another galaxy many light years away. I'm guessing the big boom you heard was my ship crashing from the sky. I was sent here to explore life on Earth and astro-foreign societies." I told them about the lottery-style choice of who gets to go, the malfunction of the space ship and so forth.
In the middle of the story, Grabbitz got up and got a few twigs and some white squishy cylinder things that they seemed to enjoy eating. They put it over the fire, some barely, some burning it. Later I would write that down on the notebook.
At the end of my story there was a silence. The look on their face was a mix between "What?" "Oookay?" And "Is this even real?" I had nothing else to say so I sat down on a log where no one else was sitting. After a few more moments of silence a voice piped up.
"What a nice story! Since you introduced yourself to us, it's time to turn it around and have us introduce ourselves to you. I see you have already met Grabbitz, Varien, Hellberg, and Stephen. My name is Ephixia," he seemed to use a lot of hand motions, "This is Mr. Fijiwiji, we sometimes just shorten in to Fij." They went on down the line raising their hands and listing off the names. I had to write them all down. "Grabz, Stephen, Ephix, Fij, Hellberg, Feint, Quantum, Obsidia, and Varien." It would take me quite a while to remember them all, but I'd get it.
"Guys, we have to leave early in the morning so we better get our rest." Mr. Fijiwiji said opening up the tent that seemed to hold no more than three people.
"Dude, what about Monstercat? We had a hard enough time fitting all of us in to the tents, now we have one more." Feint said from behind in a soft voice.
"I will just sleep on the picnic bench seat, it doesn't really matter," I said, not wanting to bother them, even though I really wanted somewhere soft to sleep after that hard landing, "I'll be alright. Don't worry about me."
"Okay, if you say so." They all started filing into the tents and after a few minutes, all was silent.
