I step out of Kayla’s Jeep and make sure my dress isn’t tucked into my underwear or anything; I smooth my dress out nervously as Kayla stopped next to me and Kayla pulled my hands away.
“Stop fretting, you look beautiful.”
Kayla curled my chestnut straight boring hair into a wild mess of curls, my white sundress with blue flowers pairing with a pair of white wedges, she made my eyes a smoky look and to admit it, I looked great, maybe even beautiful. Kayla on the other hand, was drop-dead gorgeous; her black V-neck halter dress clung to her perfect curves and her blonde hair straight yet so beautiful, not boring like my hair.
Jane decided to stay home and read for a while; she was quite the opposite of Kayla. She liked to read books and stay home and study. To be honest, I envy her place right now.
“Look who showed up, the infamous Jules, the bonfire is interesting; maybe you could stare at it for a while?” A deep voice came from behind me with a chuckle. I turned around with a smile on my face,
“And the jerk who stared at me for 10 minutes, called me beautiful, but didn’t tell me his name.” He laughed,
“It’s Asher, I apologize for not remembering to tell you, want to get a drink and go for a walk down the beach for a while?” I looked at Kayla and she grinned at me and beckoned me to go. I giggled and took Asher’s waiting hand.
Sitting on the beach handling a beer and talking to Asher about personal stuff was relaxing, the party was a couple metres away and the song ‘Far Away by Nickelback’ came on. Asher stood up and I looked up at him confused and he held out a hand, “Dance with me?” I smiled and took his hand and he pulled me up and I rested my hands on his shoulders and his arms wrapped around my waist and he pulled me closer. My head now rested on his shoulder and I nuzzled his neck,
“This is nice, are you usually this sweet?” I ask.
“Most of the time when I try to get into girls pants.” Shocked I pulled back until I saw the smug look on his face as he burst into a fit of laughter and his chest shook as he pulled me back into an embrace. “You should have seen your face,” he chuckled, “It was funny, but I wouldn’t do that to you, you’re different to the girls of my past.” I closed my eyes, and rested my head on his shoulder and the song ended, we were still swaying to no music when Kayla came down the beach saying it was curfew. I smiled and walked backwards to Kayla’s side,
“I’ll see you later Asher.” He smiled,
“Good bye Jules.”
Kayla and I walked away, slowly.
The ride home was quiet.
