The taxi ride was rough. Try having to fit 3 grown girls and 5 suitcases in the back seat. The taxi driver was rude and wouldn't let us use the trunk because it was "jammed". The whole time we had no air conditioning and the driver smelt of a foul armpit.
" we will be at the hotel soon" Macy said pinching her nose. "Don't worry". She fanned herself with a musty newspaper article she found in the crack of the seat and door.
Twenty long and treacherous minutes later, the guy "politely" dropped us off on a cracked corner. The moisture in the air was almost unbearable. It made my shorts and t-shirt cling to my skin. "Alright we just need to go a block up and bam! We will be home sweet home." Macy beamed. Sonnie yawned and we began our journey to the hotel.
The "hotel" we were staying in was not even close to a hotel. Calling it a hotel is an understatement. It was luxurious. The lobby had a beautiful chandelier. You wouldn't have even known you were in the amazons if you didn't look out the windows. Macy's dad had really out done himself. This "hotel" was absolutely stunning.
Once we got to the room Sonnie threw her bags down and immediately fell into a slumber. Macy rolled her bags to a corner and started examining the room. The room had 3 beds. One huge tv anchored against the wall. The bathroom was even better. It had a humongous garden tub. A stand-up shower. Two sinks. And two toliets. It was amazing. "This room is amazing!" Macy said jumping to a bed closest to the window. For a 19 year old. Macy sure was juvenile at times. I laughed. Her optimism was contagious. I started laughing even harder and before we knew it we rolled onto the bed in a fit of laughter. "Can you two shut the hell up? I'm trying to sleep" Sonnie groaned from under the silk covers. We quieted down and started looking at all the different things we could do in the rainforest. "I still wanna go zip lining" Macy stated. "Yea totally. It sounds fun...we need to also go to this restaurant" I pointed to a place that served exotic food. "Interesting" Macy said focusing into the menu. I yawned. It was only 2:13 in the afternoon but I was exhausted. I shut my eyes and soon fell asleep to the comforting sounds of the rainforest a few blocks away.
I woke up suddenly to Macy watching tv with sonnie, "I really would like to go zip-lining, and this restaurant looks stunning to eat at." There Macy was again, listing and planning our every move. "Zip-lining is tomorrow Macy. I say we go eat tonight. Let's wake Becca up. I'm starved". I signaled to them showing I was awake, "I'm awake, just laying here listening to you two." Macy laughed "alright then so what sonnie and I have planned is that tomorrow we g-" I stopped her short "I know, I know. Tomorrow zip-lining, today we eat at the restraint that looks amazing" I looked up at her and she smiled. "Exactly." She stood up and grabbed her phone. "Start getting ready. I'm going to call a cab to come pick us up, they should be here in about 30 minutes. Traffic seems bad out there." She began dialing a number when sonnie jumped up. "I've gotta shower." She ran to the bathroom and shut the door. A few minutes later the water was running. "Oh Becca I'm so excited. It's so beautiful here. I never want to leave." She fell down on her bed and looked out the window. "Just imagine living here Becca. It's probably amazing." I got up and walked over to the small vanity like table. "People must love living here. I couldn't imagine anyone not loving it here." "Yea." I started to touch up my face with a little face powder and a nice bronze eyeshadow. "Are you going to change? I don't see how you're living in skinny jeans here. The air is so humid." She got up and walked over to her suitcase "of course I'm going to change silly. I was just looking out at the world!" She laughed and walked into the bathroom where sonnie was still showering. "Hey! What are you doing in h-" "Calm down sonnie. It's a bathroom that has two separate rooms in it. I'm just changing my outfit." The water stopped and a few minutes later the two walked out. Both dressed nicely. One with wet hair. "Becca braid my hair. It's so humid here that's the only thing that won't result in an orange frizz." I laughed and started braiding her hair. "Cab will be here in 10 minutes!" She smiled and went back to the window. "Ouch. Careful Becca!" "Sorry! Your head is so sensitive." I finished braiding her hair and went to get my purse. I was applying my favorite NYX matte lipstick when Macy practically screamed at the top of her lungs. "CAB IS HERE! LETS GO EAT SOME GOOD AMAZONIAN FOOD!".
We stepped out into the hot soup-like air and into the cool air of the cab. "Where to?" The cab driver had a deep gruff voice and sounded more tired than sonnie had looked that morning. "Oh it's this place right here." Macy pulled it up on her phone and showed it to the driver. "I'm not exactly sure how to pronounce the name. But this is where it is." She handed her phone to the cab driver and he put the address into his GPS then gave it back. "Expensive place. Y'all got money for that?" "Of course we do. We have more than enough." Sonnie nudged Macy and mouthed something to her. She then looked at me and rolled her eyes. "But of course we have to get it out of the ATM. We don't just have it on us like that." Macy let out a laugh that only her closest friends would know is a fake laugh. The driver looked in the mirror at us and smiled. "Understandable you girls should keep your cash in that ATM. There are many crooks out here that wouldn't mind taking pretty girls like y'all and your cash." Macy shifted uncomfortably, which made me a sonnie a bit nervous. "Thanks for the advice Mr.cab driver. I'll keep our cash in the ATM." Macy regained her composure and spoke with her dads authority. "Call me Bruce." He looked me in the eyes through the mirror. Which made my heart stop and my blood run cold. "Excuse us. But I think we need to get out here. I'm going to be sick." I reached for my stomach to make it seem real. "Just a bit longer sweetheart. We are a block away." He sped up which made me actually feel sick. "Are you okay Becca?" Sonnie places her hand on my forehead. "Yea I just need to get out...NOW!" I started to panic. "Becca you're okay. Everything is okay." Macy reached across sonnie and grabbed my hand. I started to hyperventilate which led to me crying. I looked up. And again he was staring me down through the mirror. Not even focused on the road. "Bruce let us out here. We can walk the rest of the way. You said it's only a block yea?" Macy reached in her purse for her wallet. "Well lucky for you ladies. We're here." He pulled up to a nice restaurant that appeared out of pretty much nowhere. I tried to control my sobbing. But it just led to me shaking. "Thank you Bruce." Macy handed him money and we filed out. "No tip?" He yelled from the cab. "Sorry but you seemed to upset our friend here." Sonnie snapped at him. She slammed the door and he sped off. "What the hell was that Becca?" Sonnie snapped at me. I felt like an idiot. "I-I don't k-know. Let's just g-go eat." I started walking away but Macy pulled me back and hugged me. "It's okay Becca. He's gone now and we're okay." She pulled back and looked me in the eyes. "Everything is fine now hun. Let's go enjoy our dinner." I smiled and instantly felt better. "Yea let's go.". We headed into the restaurant with growing stomachs.
