The room was filled with intensity; everyone was holding their breath as a loud, annoying beeping noise echoed inside the dim lit, humid, square surgery room. There lye a young patient, about 8 years old. He was suffering from heart problems. The patient began to turn different shades of blue and gray.

Marcy winced at the slight discomfort, as a bead of sweat rolled down her forehead and into her emerald green eyes.

“Mark, give me 10 joules” Marcy ordered in her authorative voice, panicky to the situation at hand. Mark nodded his head hesitantly and switched the 7 joules to 10 joules.  “All clear!” Marcy looked up at everyone to make sure no one was in the danger zone of being shocked.

Everyone took a big step back as Marcy rubbed the heart defibulator together, causing static electrons to go through the machine, and pressed them flat against the boy’s cold, inactive, small chest. Static was sent to the boys’ heart. Causing the boys’ motionless and slightly stiff body to forcibly jolt up an inch in the air and come back down. The grim reaper slouched on the wall in the dank shadowy corner of the room, watching pleasingly as the struggle to save the boys’ life was commencing, which has been going on for 15 slow and long minutes.

An amused expression came over the grim reapers face and he laughed sadistically. The little boy stood beside the reaper, clutching his robe in his little hands, watching Marcy try to bring him to life. His face was timid with nervosity and trepidation. The grim reapers hand was ruffling the little boys’ soft curly blonde hair.

The grim reaper took his scythe and slashed open a hole in the air and he began to think about heaven. Puffy white clouds appeared in the vortex. The little boy smiled hypnotically and walked in. The vortex closed and the grim reaper began to scrutinize the scene in front of him.

“Mark, give me 12…” Marcy began to say but was cut off as a soft and clammy hand touched her shaking shoulder. Marcy glanced back and the nurse closed her eyes shook her head slowly indicating that he’s gone. Marcy grimaced and put the defibulator on the surgical table. Mark turned off the monitor and gave Marcy a sorrow filled look.

“Time of death?” Marcy asked feeling defeated, she checked her black watch to look at the time.

“11 p.m., ma’am.” Mark replied beating her to the time.

“I guess I better go notify the parents.” Marcy walked out of the operating room to the desk where it was desolate except for a little woman by the age of 50. She dialed the boys’ number. Someone answered the line but all she heard was static and a light whispering voice, which became louder and louder and louder. Then 10 voices were heard and through those voices was a loud little boys’ voice.

“You killed me Marcy Stewart” the boys’ voice echoed hauntingly in her head. Marcy put a shaky hand to her mouth and slammed the phone back down quickly.

Her chest rose and fell quickly as her fear started to set in slowly. Her anxiety began taking over and a sound came out of her mouth. The sound was painful and forced. Deborah, the medical personnel at the computers, looked up at Marcy.

Marcy was shaking with intense fear. “Marcy I think you should go home for the day. Having 5 patients die on the same day is quite stressful. I’ll call the boys’ parents.” Marcy nodded her head and went into the rectangular, gray changing room. Marcy finally got her breathing under control.

She opened her locker and began changing out of her scrubs. The lights flashed on and off steadily causing Marcy to look up, startled. She began to finish changing when all of a sudden her locker slammed closed. Marcy looked at her locker as if there was an evil presence around it. Marcy’s breath became ragged and she looked around in the room, no one was in sight. Maybe it was just the window? Of course it was the window, Marcy thought, laughing hysterically.
