A/N: Hey, this is my first author's note and I know that my first chapters were pretty short. I'm working on making them longer, it's a work in progress. There is new people for Liam to meet and someone's "special ability" may be revealed. I'm not saying so just you'll just have to read to find out. Enjoy, and don't forget to comment and vote. ;)
I wasn't sure what he meant by that, but I had a feeling that I would soon know.
We made our way down the stairs. And there were a few people walking passed us and they were just looking at me. I stuck out pretty well here.
It was just like my high school. Every one thought that I was a strange kid who ignored everyone. Some freak.
But then again, I never tried to prove them wrong. They thought my longing for isolation was unnatural. I never saw the reason for it to be unnatural.Meeting Charles
"Hey." Someone said to my right. I had been reading until someone had come up to me. "You look like you could use a friend. Are you okay?"
It was a guy with icy blue-green eyes and dark, wavy hair with a rather stupid look plastered on his face.
"Oh, no thank you. I thrive on being alone and being treated like trash."
He gave me a confused and worried look.
"Whoa. That was dark. Are you emo? Goth?"
I then glared at him for the offensive question.
He held up his hands knowing that I was offended.
"Sorry. I see that that was too far. Hi. I'm Charles, you can call me Charlie if you'd like." He held his hand out to shake my hand.
I looked at his hand then just turned away and ignored him.
He chuckled. "Fine. I'll just sit here until I grow onto you."
I rolled my eyes and just continued reading. When I went to English, I took a seat in the back. Away from everyone else. I didn't really pay attention to Mrs. Elliot, our teacher.
Then he came in late. Another dumb look on his face. I groaned silently and put my head on my desk.
"I'm sorry I'm late." He said,"I got lost."
"It's alright, stuff like this happens, it's a big school. Confusing for newcomers. Take a seat where ever there is one.
Please. Not me. Don't.
I looked up and realized he was looking at me. He had a small grin on his face. I put my head back on my desk. He then sat down next to me.
"Hey. What're the odds of us in the same class? And right next to each other too. Such coincidence." He blabbered sarcastically.
I rolled my eyes. He leaned in closer and it made me uncomfortable because I didn't like people in my personal space. "Hey. Do you have a pencil. I don't have one. Please?"
This continued for two more weeks. I then thought that I should open up.
I waited in the library, the usual place we sat. He came and set his backpack in the table.
"Hello," I said. He looked down on me surprised. He then had a triumphant grin on his face.
He grabbed me my shoulders, "Yes! Finally, I'm getting close to you! So what made you do this? The lack of conversation? Oh, wait what's your name?"
He was really excited about his victory which some what made me regret opening up. I sighed deeply and told him.
"My name is Liam Penner and I, like you are a freshman, obviously."
He cocked a brow. "Really? That's all? Nothing personal to share, instead of stating the obvious." I scowled at him. "Well, I'm sorry that I can't say anything else but I'm not used to this sort of thing."
He scowled. "Well, okay. If you won't talk about you, we'll talk about me. Um, well, I've lived here my whole life. You're new here, obviously. So what brought you here?" He asked.
I sighed heavily and stood up. "I'm sorry, but I think this is enough for today. You're sort of crossing the line. The bell's about to ring. And I do accept the offer. We can be friends. Just don't talk to me so much, I get overwhelmed." He gave me a strange, confused look. Then he smiled. "Okay," he said holding his hands up. "What ever you say, buddy." I left and I knew I had made a friend. An actual friend. I feel kind of happy. I hoped we would soon be close enough for me to talk to each other without being awkward.
Present
We walked through the hall way that I made my through on the first day I came here. It was still dark except for a few lamps hanging on the walls that I had not realized before. It was an eerie silence at first. "Coming through, gentlemen." An English accented guy came from behind us. He was tall, with blonde hair with black streaks in them hanging over his forehead. He smiled at the two of us. "Watch your heads," he said pointing behind us. I turned around and a book hit me straight on the bridge of my nose.
I flinched and another hit me in the back of my head. I exclaimed in pain turning back at the jerk who didn't seem to realize that I had been hit. He had ear buds in, he obviously wouldn't be able to hear because even I could hear the blaring electronic music playing.
Davren put his hand on my shoulder as if to comfort me. I shrugged him off and stormed toward the culprit. I tapped his shoulder. "Hey! Jerk! What the hell brought you to do that?!"
He gave me a small grin. "Well, sir. First of all, my name is not jerk. Second, I said that you should have watched your head, sonny," he retorted with his grin growing into a grimace. "And I don't appreciate your tone. You should really learn some manners because next time, I'll definitely knock you on your ass, newbie."
Newbie, I thought. What does he mean by that? They aren't expecting that I stay here, are they?
His angered look was then masked by a fake smile, then he clapped his hands together. "Well! You can call me Gareth Carter. At your service," he bowed sarcastically knowing it would only patronize me. He looked up at me, once again, with that condescending grin. "And what shall I call you, toad?"
I growled through clenched teeth as he stood up straight. I only glared at him angrily, but I failed in trying to phase him. "Liam. My name is Liam," I said in defeat. He chuckled. "Your full name. Have you no manners what so ever?" He asked. I groaned and responded. "Liam Maxwell Penner." He held his arms up. "Aha! Now how hard was that?" I looked at the ground and muttered,"jerk."
Davren came into what appeared to be the kitchen. It was amazingly enormous. It was classy, really. The entire property seemed Victorian and well structured. I was a sucker for arts and architecture. What could I say?
Davren broke the awkward tension that seemed to make the room grow tense. "So, this is Liam, Gary. I see you've met. Glad you met, actually, Liam here is a bit of a skeptic of all things supernatural, care to blow his mind?" He asked pointing his thumb behind him toward me.
I was at first dumbfounded. "Hey, I never said I was a skeptic, you j-." "Well, I suppose manners aren't the only thing you haven't learned," he cut me off. God, I thought, these people are freaking crazy.
Gareth clapped his hands loudly again. "Watch and learn," he said, holding out his hands facing a tea cup that had been set on the table. He glanced at me for a second which made me grow impatient. I motioned for him to go on, assuring him that I was watching. He exhaled slowly making himself look like he needed a lot of concentration. I could tell he was faking. Then I heard some sort of scraping sound. I turned back at the tea cup in disbelief. It began to slide towards the tea pot that was also on the table. He inhaled slowly. "He comes the hard part," he said. He strained himself and the lid came off, followed by the tea that was in the pot was beginning to slowly float over into the tea cup. My jaw dropped in amazement. "Care for tea?" He asked as the cup made it's way toward me without having touched the counter. I grabbed it and all I could do was stand there stunned.
"Oh. My. God," I managed. They both began chuckling. I looked at Gareth. "Am I supposed to be seeing this, you know, due to the fact that I'm literally just a regular person." Then the light, fun atmosphere disappeared. Gareth glared at me.
"What?" He seemed to be full of anger. "Why didn't you say he wasn't like us?!" He demanded at Davren.
"What?! What are you blaming me for?! Annie's the one who said he was like us! Why do you think she didn't let him die?"
"Whoa. Look. I'm not like you guys, or Annie or anyone around here. I just want to go home already. This place is freaking me out." They both exchanged worried looks. Then Gareth spoke. "We're sorry but, you can't leave. If what you're saying is true, then you can't be let out back in the real world. This place etches itself into your memory. Not even Annie's craft can wipe it away. You either find your potential or you die." I laughed nervously at first. Then those piercing grey eyes of his finally showed true sincerity. I stepped back. Looking at them both like they were crazy.
"Okay. Uh, you guys are crazy and I, am leaving. So, nice to meet you, tour's over bye!" I ran past them and into the all too familiar hallway. I bursted through the front doors. I tried to make my to the gate but as much as I ran, I didn't seem to get any closer. After what seemed like forever, I got through the gate. I just kept running and running. I hadn't tried to catch my breath until about ten minutes of just running and running.
I stopped and placed my palms on my knees to catch my breath. I felt nauseous and dizzy. My vision going blurry. I realized that I wasn't far from home and I made another great stretch home.
My house was in sight now. I could see my mother walking out. She was yelling and I couldn't make out what she was saying.
I was horrified at what I saw. There was blood on her white and yellow dress that she liked to wear on days like these. Her hand was against her body, covering the source of what was causing the blood flow. Then, a man I didn't recognise was walking out of the house with a blade in his hand.
I gasped and I tripped at the sight of him taking my mother's life as he slashed at her neck from behind. I screamed but I couldn't hear anything. Nothing at all. I clenched my fists at the dirt road as sand crept under my nails. He looked at me with a wicked, evil smile on his face. I noticed movement behind him and I felt more than joyed that it was dad. Then I realized how lifeless he was, being dragged by some monster, it's giant, sausage like fingers digging into his skull.
I can't believe this is happening, I thought. The people who loved and cared for me unconditionally, who loved me no matter what. Who took care of me when I was hurt, who supported me with every decision I made, were just thrown to the dirty, harsh ground like soulless sacks of meat. I felt a wrenching at my heart. Mostly with fear and agony. But, then it was swept away with anger and fury.
I got up and started running towards them. I let out a loud scream that I felt was worthy of scaring a lion. The one who killed mom just grinned as I ran towards him. It only infuriated me more.
I knew I couldn't possibly be a match, so I don't know why I would do something as reckless as this. He went into a stance that he was ready to fight. I was skinny, but I wasn't weak. I knew that. He slashed at me but I quickly dodged the attack and I swiped my right fist under his arm and struck his side. He yelled in pain and sent his fist in my direction. I was only quick enough to barely escape from becoming unconscious. I struck him in the face hard enough for him to spit blood out of his mouth.
He glared at me and hit me with the opposite side to the blade of the knife. I was crashing to the ground, grunting as I held my head after hitting it on the rough ground.
"Liam!" Someone with a familiar voice called out. Before I knew it, Gareth was pulling the man's knife out of his hands without having to touch it. He held out his hand and the guy went flying backwards and flopped on the ground.
I saw Davren, changing into the ferocious creature that I had seen before, tackling the other creature that killed dad. Then I saw her. Annie. Telling me every thing would be fine.
"It's alright, you'll be okay," she said with a fading voice. My vision was going blurry again. I looked up at her, "you come to get me too? Get rid of me?" "What?" she said. "I came to help. Liam, it's okay. We've got it under control, just let go." I sighed and closed my eyes. The words "thank you" slipped out of my mouth before going into complete darkness. So, you must have thought that I would reveal Liam's power didn't you? Well, to be honest, I'm not sure what his ability should be yet. I'm extremely open to suggestions. Please comment and ask questions if you have any.
