I was hearing a distorted, muffled voice. I opened my eyes and saw him.
Charles.
I gasped. He stuck out his hand for me to take it. He helped me up off the ground. I just kept staring as he smiled.
"Why are you here, bro?" He asked. "You weren't supposed to come with me. You should go back." I looked at him confusedly.
He sighed. "Are you stupid or something, it is not your time. You have to go back... Come back..." his voice was changing, it started to sound like Annie's.
I gasped for air as I sat up in a bed.
I recollected something that never happened. Annie putting her hands on my chest, emitting electricity from her hands. It couldn't have been true.
I look around in the in the room.
This isn't Annie's room, I thought. She has to have something in here that was girly.
Then I heard the door and turned. The boy--or the were wolf -- from earlier. He was shirtless and in pajamas with a bed head that obviously looked like he tried very hard to fix. He reached for a towel that was hung up on a hook on the wall.
He then smiled at me. "Hey. You're finally awake, I see. I'll go get Annie."
Before he walked out I said,"wait, how long was I asleep?"
"Ooh. That. Is. A. Question. Um, you kinda' died, I guess." He said wincing and waiting for my response.
I looked at him smiling, thinking that he was joking.
He looked confused and shocked at my response. Then I knew. I didn't think I would ever laugh or smile ever again.
"What?!" He put his hands up as if to get me to calm down.
"You didn't actually die," he said chuckling, "I mean, how do I put this? Annie brought you back? It's because of changeling. He was in the form of a basilisk. He petrified you."
He petrified me?
I looked at him, still confused.
"How long was I out?" I asked.
He sighed. "About three days, maybe. I've been taking care of you while you were in a coma. Mostly because I wanted you out of my bed already."
That was uncalled for, I thought.
"'Well, how did this come to be,' you might ask. 'Why me?' Doesn't matter right now. Since you're awake, I'll show you around since the director is not here to greet you. She left yesterday to tend to some business. Come on. Get ready. After I'm out of the shower, I'll show you around."
He walked towards me and at two feet away, he sniffed.
"Okay." He said chuckling. "You might need one too."
Obviously, I thought, I've been in a coma for four days!
"Ah. I'll let you go first. There's a fresh towel in the closet.
"Uh, thanks. Really, uh, Davren, right?" He nodded. "And you are...?" "Oh! I'm Liam, nice to meet you." When I shook his hand I realized that he had claws.
Scary.
As soon as Davren came out of the bathroom after changing, we made our way down the stairs of this elaborate mansion.
"Hope you're ready," he said. "For what?"
"For the mad circus to begin."
