Joe'an

~

I lifted up my shirt and the show began. They all just stared. I felt as if I was an artifact in a museum. The dumbfounded looks that beamed off of their faces scared me. Just say something. Say something already!

"Oh my gosh..." Michelle covered her mouth with the palm of her hand.

"Oh fuck..." Bri mumbled to herself as her eyes examined my scares.

A few more stomach wrenching seconds went by before they all looked away, in disgust.... Pity....sorrow? I couldn't tell which was which.

"Wh-What happened to you Joe, who did this?" Michelle asked, her eyes filled with tears.

I bit down on my bottom lip.

Do I trust them?

I just met these group of girls a couple of days ago.

Was I really about to tell them my deepest secretes, secrets I wouldn't even tell the doctors who saved my life on countless occasions.

"My Brothers..." I mumbled.

"What?" Faith asked.

"My brothers..... They did this." I spoke up.

"Your brothers beat you up like that!?!" Bri exclaimed, her eyes popping out her head.

"All those scares.... From your brothers?" Michelle whispered in disbelief.

"Scares, bruises, broken bones, fractures, concussions, every scratch and wound I have ever endured. Are because of them" I tried my hardest to keep myself from crying.

"Why... why would they intentionally hurt you?" Faith asked.

I shrugged. "Who knows? I'm the only girl and the youngest. Easy target I guess"

"That's so fucked up"

"You need to do something about it Joe" Bri started

"Yes, tell someone, the guidance counselor or something" faith agreed.

"No please! That will only make things worse. Please just keep this to yourselves. I'd rather not have anyone else know. Promise me you won't tell anyone!"

I looked at them, pleading with my eyes. They all looked at each other, as if they weren't too sure about agreeing to my request, but they didn't have another choice.

"Okay fine, I won't say anything"

"Yeah. I won't say a word."

"Me either"

They promised, I released a sigh of relief and pulled my shirt back down, they all still just stared at me.

"Well, I'm hungry now, after all that sadness." I tried to change the mood.

"Fat ass" Bri chuckled. I rolled my eyes and attempted to get up but an excruciating pain ran through my whole body.

"Hold up swole up, I'll go get you something. Lay yo busted ass down" Faith got up off the bed.

"Listen now, yall not finna be babying me! But thank you because I really can't move!"

"I can get anything out the kitchen for her Bri or nah?" faith asked.

"Yeah gon head."

"And do yall have icepacks?"

"Nah but it should be some frozen beans in the freezer that she can use. And I have some icy hot in here somewhere," Bri got up off the bed and started to sure her room for the icy hot while Faith went to the kitchen.
