I was pretty excited to see whoever was there. Guy or girl? Nice or mean? And most importantly, human or parasite?
We arrive at a tree where a female is lying unconsious under it. Okay that answers one of my questions. Jeb walls over with a jug of water and she wakes up and gulps it down in practically one drink.
She's awake and I'm nervous to look in her eyes, for fear of seeing a silver glow look back at me. I couldn't see that one this girl, I just couldn't. Too many, too many.
"Why'd you give it water, Jeb?" I noticed Maggy had said it. My heart sank. It's a parasite. I didn't even he's anything. I saw my brother step forward. It would be dead soon.
"Hold it Kyle." Jeb said. What? Is he out of his mind? Nevermind I knew the answer.
"Why? It's one of them." He spit out the word them. I completely agreed with him. It was just a parasite.
"Well, yes, she surley is. But it's a little complicated." Complicated? I had to step in.
"How?" I'm shocked. Jeb wouldn't have made it if he didn't have the guts to kill one. Hell, he's shot a human before.
"See, this here's my niece, too." Jeb pointed at the parasite. His niece? Was this Melanie? Or Melanie's body I should say.
"Not anymore she's not." Kyle said. He took a few steps toward it. His Jody was a parasite now. There's nothing to change that. All he wanted to do was kill the worm in front of him.
Jeb cocked his gun.
"I said hold it, Kyle." Was he really doing this? No he couldn't be defending one of them.
"Jeb? What are you doing?" I was awestruck. How dare he? It's just plain disrepect for all the people lost to their kind. Kyle kept on arguing until someone suggested to take it to Doc. That may be the only use, but we all knew it wouldn't change the fact that he would fail.
Nobody could beat Jeb's gun, but Maggy still argued.
"We can't just show it where we live." I said.
"This is silly." Jeb pulled out a bandana and wrapped it around her head to cover her eyes.
I couldn't believe we were actually taking it to the caves!
