"What's going on?" I said sitting up while trying to adjust to the light half-asleep. That's weird. My voice is abnormally deep. Oh well, it's probably just groggy.
I wasn't even sitting up all the way when immediately there was a powerful slap against my cheek. My head whipped to the side and my cheek burned red. God, that hurt. Finally I slowly turned around and faced Jen, who was clutching a pillow as if it were a deadly weapon. She pointed it toward me and gave me an intimidating look.
"Jennifer, what is wrong with you?!" I hissed as I clenched and unclenched my fists.
"Don't come any closer. I don't know where you came from but I'll have you know I'm skilled in kick boxing. And where's Amber, what have you done with her?"
"Where's Amber?" I echoed in confusion, "Jen, are you asleep?"
Amber never told she had a sleeping condition but guessing by these circumstances she obviously has one. I'd have to get her back to sleep and talk about this with her tomorrow. I read in a book that if I wake up someone in a sleepwalking trance I could cause them to have a heart-attack from the sudden action. I'm a bit flattered to know I appear in her dreams though.
Slowly, Jen got up and started backing away to the door. Her hands touched the knob and I stood up to talk to her.
"Get away from me you perverted freak!" she shrieked in a voice I was sure would awake my parents.
"Jennifer--" I started slowly, "I'm going to take my cell phone and call these nice people to examine you, okay?" I turned around and began search for my phone on my night table. It had to be here somewhere.
"I'm not the creepy boy that's creeping into a girl's bedroom in the middle of the night. This isn't Twilight."
"Boy?!" I spat extremely offended, "Does this look a boy--"
I put my hands on my hips and stopped. My hips didn't feel broad and envious like they usually were. Slowly, I lowered my eyes and let out a horrifying scream. My legs were skinny and hairy and there was something visible at my pants that really shouldn't be there.
As an instinct I flung my hands to my chest--flat. I rushed to my vanity and one look at the mirror sent me in hysterics again. Replacing my face I cared and loved was a boy face that held bright brown eyes and curly brown locks on my head. Despite the extremely extraterrestrial situation I have to admit--I look pretty good.
When I looked down again I was met by a grusome sight. My new skinny male body was clothes with a blue tank top and tight black shorts I wore for bed. It made everything stick out unpleasantly I pinched myself to wake up from this nightmare. I didn't wake up. I turned around, knees weak, and stared at Jen with bulged eyes. She was looking at me with an interested expression as if she was examining me.
"Jennifer, look at me! I'm a freaking man!" I shrieked as I turned back around and looked horrified at my reflection. From the mirror I could see Jen's eyes softening and she looked at me with an odd expression,
"You're not Amber," she paused, "Are you?"
"Yes, I'm Amber. I can prove it! In the eighth grade we stole your dad's car and he had bail us out at the police!" I was desperate to have her believe me.
"Everyone knows that. We were the news."
"Um," I ran events through my head trying to find something only I knew about Jen, "You hung up Paul's underwear in the flagpole, he still doesn't know we did it. Your middle name is Natasha and you hate that name so you don't let anyone know it and I say that just to annoy you and--"
"Alright! I believe you. You're Amber."
"No. This isn't Amber. Amber is a beautiful, courageous girl not a boy! How does this happen?!"
"Look on the bright side," she responded awkwardly. She stepped away from the door and looked around. She looked and sounded out of place, "At least you're a hot boy."
I stared at her in horror. Of all the reassuring things to say, she chooses the one that makes me want to throw her out my bedroom window head-first!
"You don't go to sleep as a girl and wake up a boy. That's not normal!" I gasped as a horrific thought crossed my mind. I dropped to my knees and dramatically threw my face against my palm, "My plan to get Austin--it's ruined! I can't approach him like this!"
Jen's face lit up, "Maybe you can! Think of this as an advantage! You can re-enroll in the school and get closer to Austin--I mean now since you're a boy you guys are like 'homies'" she put this in air-quotes, "You can learn what he likes in a girl and become that!"
I began to think about this. She had a point--obviously I was intimidating Austin and he thought I was a bit a over his league so if I somehow got into his head this would all work out! I could go by a different name and everything.
"I see where you're getting at!" I smiled. Jen always had a way of showing you the great side of things. Though, I was still curious of how this happened. When I looked up she was still staring at me with a perplexed and a frightened expression. I sighed and looked down at my clothes,
"Alright, I don't know about you but now these clothes are getting awkward."
"How about Danny's clothes? He still keeps some here, right?"
"Yeah, but I think they'll be a little big."
"Well I think Paul's clothes will fit you... we can go over. We'll have to walk though. I don't think the middle of the night is a good time to let your parents know you've had a gender-change."
I sighed, walked over to my closet, picked up my red winter coat and pointed to the door, "Let's go."

Jennifer's house was quiet and dark when we entered. Jen turned on the light in the kitchen (which we entered from) and put her jacket down on the table. Then, she swirled around and gave me a sympathetic look,
"There are some of Paul's clothes in the basement, they were just washed. I'll get them. Stay here."
I nodded and sat down on the chair and watched as Jennifer ran out the room. 1 o'clock in the morning and what am I doing? Stealing someone's clothes because something freaky happened to me while I asleep.
From behind me I heard footsteps. Paranoid, I looked around me. "Jen?" I squeaked when I heard no one. I felt a shadow cover me and terrified I looked up. My heartbeat increased and I slowly raised my head only to see Paul.
I rolled my eyes and my body relaxed. That was until I noticed he was holding a broom in a batting position. What is with Paul and Jen and their need to have a weapon around them?
"No!" I started to say, "It's me Am--"
He swung the broom.
