Although the title sounds rather unappealing, "word vomiting" is probably one of the best ways to get your gears turning again. And it's really easy too.

All you have to do is write.

Write anything. And don't think about what you're writing.

No editing, no re-reading, no planning. Just writing.

Don't worry about correcting spelling, punctuation, or grammar.

The key to "word vomiting" is to just let whatever comes to mind spill across the keyboard. If you choose, you can continue with your story, or just write something random. The purpose of it is to get your fingers typing and your mind thinking.

When you're satisfied with your "word vomit" (maybe you write a chapter, a page, even a short story), then you can worry about editing and revising.

Personally, I've found this to be one of the most successful remedies to writer's block. While you're writing in this way, it will seem like you aren't being detailed or specific enough. I always feel like what I'm writing is horrible. But when you read it again, that's when you add or take out whatever you need to. It just needs a little tweaking here and there, and you've got yourself an entire chapter.
