The next day at the Library Nayla feels as though, her every move is being watched. Even though, she accorded the feeling to some strange paranoia on account of her having a restless night, the feeling persists. This made every stranger who asked Nayla for help a suspect on her list.
On top of that mystery, Nayla couldn't figure out the deal with Alex Hunter. The whole ordeal with her fainting the day before is setting up a major roadblock in her mind. Like, why is she so affected by Alex's presence?
'I mean, no doubt Alex is one fine bowl of yum.' Not that she would ever admit that loudly. But it is more than just physical, she just can't put her finger on it. And it is driving her insane.
Her curiosity had her hoping that Alex might drop by. Or at least, she convinced herself that her curiosity is the reason she is hoping to see him again. After a few hours of letting Alex Hunter plague her mind, Nayla decides she is wasting valuable brain power by thinking about him. There is no way in hell, she is going to let some pretty white boy gain so much influence in her thoughts. Not that her colleague Amanda is any help to that plan.
On their break, Amanda had taken the liberty of animatedly narrating how Alex had heroically carried Nayla out of the library, when she had fainted. And how Nayla had been so "Lucky" he had found her.
First of all, Nayla is pretty sure he is part of the reason she had felt light headed. Secondly, Nayla is grateful that he had helped her out, but did Amanda have to keep grinning at her like a Cheshire cat every time she came pass her for that reason?
Nayla signs the umpteenth time as Amanda grins and whispers "You are so lucky." But, Nayla can't bring herself to be mad at Amanda's antics, she is really a sweetheart most times. she would let Amanda live off whatever fantasies she had created in her mind just this once.
The rest of the day progressed uneventfully to her slight disappointment. And it seemed that it would be the same for the following day at the library...well almost.
Nayla feels more relaxed today, unlike the day before, the eerie feeling that her every move is being watched, is all but non-existent . Amanda's teasing had died down for the most part and it was almost the end of Nayla's work week. Things are looking up, Nayla smiles eagerly looking forward to the long weekend. She checks the clock one more time and decides to go and inform Amanda she is going to clock out.
It is at that moment that he decides to make his entrance. Their eyes meet at a distance and Nayla stays rooted to her spot. A mild fluttering assaulting her stomach as he approaches her.
She doesn't even realize she is holding her breath until he is standing in front of her.
"Hi." He says wearing his signature half grin, scanning his mate's slightly dazed face.
"Erm..." Nayla starts, but has to clear her throat before continuing "Are you here to read a book again?" She asks sarcastically, clasping her arms over each other under her breasts.
She doesn't miss the slight shift of his eyes towards her bosom, and back to her eyes at her action. Alex swallows, how could she look so effortlessly sexy he wonders. The things she is doing to him without even trying is incredible.
"Actually, I came to see you." Alex replies.
"Oh really, and why is that?" She asks with her killer smile. Involuntarily feeling happy he is here for her.
"I wanted to make sure you were feeling better." He admits.
"I am feeling better." she says truthfully, she had been feeling a little warm, but nothing drastic.
"I can see that... so, that means picking you up on Saturday for a little hike won't be a problem." He responds. Wait, what? the conversation had just reached a whole new level very fast.
"Are you asking me out on a date?" Nayla asks a bit surprised.
"Would that be a problem?" Alex reponds, raising an eyebrow.
"I...I can't." She stammers. How could he sound so confident and casual about this? As if he isn't expecting any other answer than a positive one. Well, he had something else coming then, Nayla thought to herself.
"Okay, Sunday then." He suggests.
"Alex, it is not about the day." Nayla protests.
"Do you have a boyfriend?" Alex asks with a repulsed face.
"What? No." Nayla replies, confused.
"Do you hate me?" He asked cautiously, actually daring to look a bit sad.
"No..." Nayla signs, where is he going with this?
"Then Saturday at noon." He declares with a smile.
"Alex..." She starts, but Alex is done with the discussion.
"If calling it a date makes you uncomfortable, call it the local guy showing the new girl around thing." He suggests.
"I will pick you up at noon on Saturday, wear sensible shoes, I have to go. See you on Saturday." He says, breezing out of the Library as quickly as he had breezed in. Leaving an astonished Nayla behind, mouth gaping.
What had just happened?
