Chapter Three
After a while of continuous running, I finally made it back to the shoe factory. Climbing through the window, I fell to the floor, causing an echo go throughout the building. I quickly made sure that everything I needed was in my bag, although there wasn't much, everything I had was essential.
I left my make shift bed the way it was. The officer would realize that he was, once again, too late. He was always just one step behind me. Once I start to think that I was safe, he would fine out where I had gone. Once I leave the place, he would show up moments after. And so the chase continued. I guess I kind of found it amusing, our little game. Whenever he would find me, I would get away, but not before I left a little note for him, taunting him. I only wish that I would be able to stay and see his face as he read it. Actually I wish I would be able to see his face in general. Not once in the last 5 years have I seen his face. The only reason I know it is him, is by his police vehicle.
Not seeing him can be a good thing and a bad thing. For starters, its a good thing because it means that I have never been close enough to being caught to see him. And for a bad thing, if he was ever off duty and I ran into him, I would have no idea; an easy way for him to catch me. But lucky for me, he wasn't smarter than me, therefore I shall never get caught.
Like every other time, I pulled out my pencil from my bag and took a piece of newspaper from the ground. Placing the paper on the ground I started to write.
Dear Officer,
It's funny, how you have been chasing me for the past 5 years, yet I don't even know your name and you know everything about me. A shame really.
Like last time, you failed to reach me. Sorry for the inconvenience. Maybe it's a sign, time for you to quit and to leave me alone. You won't catch me, that's a promise.
But if you want to continue this little game, by all means, go ahead. Its my little source of entertainment. Although, I must admit, I was growing rather attached to this place. Yet again, maybe it was a good thing you found me, that way I am still able to leave.
Well, I hope this is our last goodbye, and if not, let the game continue.
Until Next Time,
Peyton Montgomery.
Placing the note on my bed, I smiled to myself, knowing that most likely he would continue searching for me. Although I don't know much about the cop, I do know that he is stubborn.
Why do I like the fact that the officer will probably still follow me? Simple. I have someone in my life. Most people would be annoyed that there is a cop chasing after them, ruining their chance to settle down and relax. But for me, I am actually afraid to settle down, I'm afraid to get attached, to trust people. Having the officer always following me, it doesn't allow me to settle down, to get attached and to trust anyone, yet I still have something in my life. It nice, in a sick, twisted way.
What can I say? I've been alone for 5 years. I need something to hold onto. And it happens to be the one guy that wants to arrest me. Life works in mysterious ways.
I give the room a once look over, a sad smile on my face. I really was going to miss this place. I most likely won't be this lucky and fortunate to have a hideout like this.
Once I had enough, I climbed through the window, and fell to the ground. Pulling the strap of my bag over my shoulder, I started my journey. One that really never seemed to end.
My stomach growled reminding me that I never got to eat that day. Well, if the officer is on my tail, he'll think I left. He won't even think that I would stay longer. I guess I'll just have to be sneaky about it. A quick in and out. No talking to anyone.
