It all started with a little kindness.Boq was on his first day to school.
In kindergarten. It seemed scary, but he had a lot of friends that were going to join him. He told himself he would be just fine.As he arrived, he glared at the crowds of children, hoping to see his friends. His mother and father left, leaving him in worry. Suddenly, he heard a roar of laughter, louder than thunder. Looking over, he saw crowds of children giggling and adults laughing madly. He slinked over, only to be pushed out of the great crowd. He fought his way through, fussing and nudging and elbowing past every kid and parent. He wanted to see what was funny, too!
Then, in the very midst of everything, he came so very close to the middle. He heard a small whine, then a cry. He scanned over taller heads, and through adult's legs. What he saw was quite a sight.
A little girl lying down on the sidewalk face first. Her cute, little red dress was soiled, torn, and all-over-the-place. He was going to laugh, but something in his heart burst. He felt pity for her vulnerable state. So he fought over once more, reaching her.
She didn't notice. The crowd has suddenly changed from loud bubbling laughter to glares of question. They all wondered what this boy was doing!
Boq was embarrassed. I can't let her suffer, he reminded himself. So he called out to her. "Little girl?" He asked out. She turned her head and he saw she had a lip disfigurement. Her top lip was too big, and her bottom lip was too small, leaving a gap. He felt slightly disgusted, but he was empathetic.
He held out his hand.
The crowd fell silent.
Anyone could've heard a pin drop during that moment. Afraid, but now filled with hope and relief, she grabbed his hand and stood up. He brushed her dress back into place, and wiped off most of the dirt.
The crowd exchanged confused looks, but eventually, led to clapping and cheering of joy. The little girl smiled a smile that made Boq dizzy. She may have had a disfigurement, but the true meaning shined brighter than any star.
"What's your name?" He asked her. "Alia Galinda Beck." She answered. He answered back, "Wow! You have three names! I'm just Boq!" She laughed. "Thank you for everything.. But I must go." She said. Boq changed from a smile to a look of surprise. "What?! Aren't you going to school here?!" He yelled. She answered, "I have to go to a different school. I am sorry. Thank you, Boq. Goodbye." She smiled a sad smile.
"NOOO!" He yelled for her to come back, wishing with all his hearts content.
14 years later...
Boq was in University. He was proud for pushing himself all those years, and he would finally get a job. But, he felt something wasn't right. There had always been a small hole in his heart, and a feeling of discomfort and déjà vu in his gut. But he could never remember why.
As he glided past the groups of young adults, he smiled and told himself, This is it. My big moment. He walked through the large, luxurious metal gates of the 20th century. Staring at the large building before him, he knew he couldn't fail.
Walking inside, he fussed around with a map looking for the dormitories.
Forgetting to look where he was stepping, he accidentally bumped into someone! Losing balance, they both fell over.Boq opened his eyes to see a beautiful girl! He got up immediately, and apologized. "I'm so sorry! It was totally my fault!" He winced. She sat up. Facing up, she stared into his eyes. Suddenly, Boq felt a strange sensation.
A feeling he had never felt for a long time. His eyes started to shimmer. What's so special about this girl?! He asked himself. He absentmindedly held out his hand while still staring into her deep, ocean blue eyes. She looked at his hand. She smiled, then started giggling. Then she burst out in happy-go-lucky laughter.
Huh?! He was in shock. This was getting confusing. "Uh... Are you okay?" He asked. She eventually calmed. Still smiling, she answered, "Boq, you always make me feel okay."
He gasped.
How did she know his name?! Suddenly, an image flashed through his mind. An image of a little girl with disfigurement. "G-Galinda? Alia Galinda?!" He asked out in shock. She smiled. "It's Glinda." He flinched. "Oh, okay, Glinda." He shared a knowing smile.
But suddenly a thought struck him in the face. Didn't she have a disfigurement?! "Wait!" He shouted. Surprised, she turned her head. "Huh?" His eyebrows narrowed. "Wasn't there something wrong with you face?!" He yelled. Quickly wishing to take back his use of words, he slapped his mouth. She winced. But, then she quickly smiled knowingly. "Sorry! I said that totally wrong!" He apologized. "That's okay. I know, I had surgery for it." She replied.
"You're ... So beautiful now..." He dreamily gazed, then his face flushed. "I-its not like you weren't beautiful before, just... well..." She laid a finger on his lips. "Shhh.. No need to explain." She whispered.
She lightly planted a sweet, loving kiss on his bright-red cheek.
He blushed madly. "O-oh." He exclaimed. "Not like 'oh' like that was bad, but it was like a good 'oh', well, you-you know...right?" He mumbled. She laughed. "Looks like I'll be seeing you around the school later," she smiled, stroking her finger across his bottom lip, exiting, leaving him in a glazed state.
