Hello, Didn't See You There

Waking to an odd sound, the young dragon Adan saw a large blue box materialize in front of him. The doors were thrown open and he heard a man— perhaps a Time Lord?— name the time and planet, followed by a more cynical voice declaring his discomfort with Adan's home planet and species.

Being the curious creature he was, Adan slipped aboard the machine shortly before the Time Lord closed the doors. Adan had heard stories of Time Lords and their amazing machines from the other, older dragons who had met Time Lords in the past when they used to visit frequently. Finding himself on a real TARDIS, Adan was thrilled, although he did not like the Time Lord's companion, he felt much too cold for the dragon's liking. Since no one had noticed him yet, Adan decided to explore. The TARDIS herself seemed to not mind the dragon guest and helpfully showed him around.

The Doctor and Loki, however, were still arguing about where to go next, unaware of the dragon. "Well, since you don't like fire much, what about the planet Mars in the year-"

"Why not just let me visit Midgard?" Loki interrupted.

"Because, quite frankly, I am done with humans! Too violent! Now, what about the best coffee shop in the galaxy?" The Doctor insisted.

Loki raised an eyebrow. "Why don't you like mortals? I thought you Time Lords felt the same about all races."

The Doctor stuttered for a moment, unable to come up with a comprehensible response. "Well, I, you, because... It's a Wibbly Wobbly Timey Wimey thing! It's hard to explain!"

They couldn't agree on a place to land for quite a while, and Idris, having more than enough of the two squabbling, led Adan right into the middle of the Control room.  The Doctor and Loki stopped bickering instantly in surprise and Adan chirped happily at meeting a Time Lord for the first time.

"Doctor, what is that thing doing here?" Loki asked.

"It must have walked into the TARDIS when we landed last... the poor thing is probably so confused." The Doctor answered.

"Then send it back to where it belongs. I do not think dragons will take too kindly to missing young."

Adan frowned. Why didn't the Time Lord talk to him the normal way? And why did they refer to him as "it"? Adan was not at all stupid and felt rather insulted they were treating him as such. "I have a name," Adan huffed. "And I'm not an 'it'. I thought Time Lord knew what dragons were like."

The two stared at Adan, not expecting him to speak. "You can talk!" The Doctor exclaimed delightedly.

Adan blew smoke out of his nostrils. "Of course I can talk! Really, you're both being rude." Although if he was honest Adan really was confused.

The Doctor ignored the dragon's protests and started examining Adan, as he was very curious. The stories he had been told from way back when Time Lords and dragons would often visit each other had described dragons as huge, powerful beings, when this one was only the size of a young horse. The Doctor admired the shininess of it's copper scales, not entirely noticing the annoyance in it's fiery amber eyes. Adan just was weirded out by the Time Lord's odd behavior. He wondered if the Time Lord might be sick, but then noticed the massive bruise on his head and determined that the Time Lord probably had a concussion.

"If it's a dragon, why is it so small?" Loki wondered, voicing the Doctor's confusion.

Adan squirmed out of the Doctor's hold, accidentally slapping him with his tail, and glared at the Time Lord before answering. "I'm only this size now because it was practical! Usually I would be much taller! And why does the Time Lord have a concussion?"

"It's just a bruise! Anyways, sorry about that... what is your name?" The Doctor said.

"Adan." The dragon replied.

"Right, Adan. So, Welcome to the TARDIS! I am the Doctor, and my current companion here is Loki. Try not to fight with him please, the TARDIS doesn't like it. She doesn't like any fighting, actually."

Adan nodded. "Okay. So, I heard you couldn't decide where to go earlier, you know, since it was echoing through the TARDIS. I do have a place in mind though, if I can choose!"

The Doctor grinned. "Perfect! Looks like I have a new companion, and I don't think I need to explain much to you because dragons and Time Lords know each other!!! So where did you have in mind?"

Adan grinned. "Can we go to Pompeii?!"

Doctor cleared his throat nervously. "Um, actually I was trying to avoid Earth as of now, but we can go to any other planet!"

Adan pouted. "But I really want to see the volcano explode! I was told on Earth, volcanoes are rare, and the sky is blue! A blue sky Doctor! How weird is that?!"

Loki chuckled and the Doctor sighed. "You asked him Doctor. It would be rude to refuse now. And besides, that's two votes for Midgard. Majority wins, doesn't it?" Loki pointed out.

The Doctor didn't quite know how to react to both of his companions teaming up against his choice and so relented, marching off to put in the coordinates. Loki and Adan watched eagerly when the Time Lord froze, remembering a rather important Timey Wimey thing.

"You know, I hate to disappoint you both but we can't go to Pompeii or we risk a paradox, since my last self was there on volcano day! I rescued a family from being buried under volcanic ash, very heroically if I do say so myself."

Adan ran up to the consul, knowing that the TARDIS had a conscious, and asked Idris what to do. Much to the Doctor's frustration Idris replied that she remembered exactly where she, Ten, and Donna, an old companion and a favorite of hers, had been that day and could easily set a path to avoid them.

"Idris! You're supposed to help me! " The Doctor whined. Idris made an apologetic noise, wanting to comfort her Time Lord, but having reasons for wanting to be in Pompeii. They took off and soon landed in Ancient Rome. "Here. Pompeii." The Doctor announced, slightly lacking his usual cheerful demeanor.

Adan wound around the Doctor's side and purred, much like an overgrown cat, before nudging them all out of the door, sending a silent thanks to Idris. The TARDIS laughed as the travelers set off, before creating an interface that wouldn't arise suspicion. She had some unfinished business in Pompeii.
