Knife

52 5 1

I hold it
Watch the light on the blade
Smile sadly.

I hold it
Rest it against my wrist lightly
Apply pressure, but don't break the skin
Smile sadly.

I hold it
The words of hate
Attention seeking, ugly, fat
No one could ever love you
Smile sadly.

I hold it
The scrawled insults across the inside of bathroom doors
Rattling like marbles inside my mind
The stares because I'm wearing something different
To hide the narrow white lines on my arms
Smile sadly.

I hold it
I can feel the pain
I deserve the pain
I am ugly
I am fat
It must be true - they all think so
Smile sadly.

I hold it
Soon it will be over
The insults will stop forever
Today I have the courage to end it
I can't live like this anymore
I won't
I slice, deeper than ever before
And smile, sadly.
