Chapter 2

Chapter 2

Thank God Ethan and Grayson did online school. I don't think I could handle seeing them everyday at school, not to mention a good portion of the girls drooled over pictures of them in class. Plus, this way I can actually focus during school. Well, I could. For about a week, until he came along.

I walked along side Kat to our next class, history, which I hated almost as much as math. Our coach was the teacher of this class, and I'd be lying if I said he didn't scare me a little. He yelled everything, since he was used to being on the side of a game yelling at players. It got really annoying.

I sat down by the windows, because the outside scenery was green and sunny. And I could watch people walk around and stuff.

"Okay, everyone sit down!" the coach, who's name I don't actually know because everyone just calls him Coach A, yelled.

Everyone was already sitting, but they quieted down and turned to look at him.

"Today were doing group work. And no, you little rug rats, I'm not letting you choose your groups. Im not that stupid," he said, picking up a clipboard.

He listed out the groups, and by the time he called everyone, it was just me, a girl I didn't know, and a boy named Liam. I knew him from my math class, we sat next to each other.

"So, how's he doing?" Liam asked, flipping through the pages.

"Who?"

He looked up at me.

"Hitler, you do you think I'm talking about?" he said, and then sighed, "Alex."

Alex was the boy who came into the hospital, the one who almost died from hemlock. I clenched my jaw and swallowed.

"He's fine," I said, "There was a plant in him that he needed to get out-"

"Hemlock," he said, "Thats what it was, right?"

I scrunched up my eyebrows and looked at him. He blew his sandy brown hair out of his face and started reading from the book, well, fake reading. His eyes stared blankly at the picture.

"Uh, yeah, how'd you know that?"

His gray eyes met mine.

"I read."

Okay, that still didn't answer how he knew it was in him, but whatever. The girl was sitting next to us, looking bored and a little awkward, and I felt bad for not talking to her.

"I'm Haley," I said, "What's your name?"

She looked at me and scowled for a second, until she gave in and cracked a tiny smile. It reminded me of how I used to be, back in Boston. Never smiling, almost always in a bad mood.

"Cora," she said, her voice smooth and low.

She was beautiful to say the least. Dark hair, chocolate eyes, fair but not quite pale skin, and long wispy lashes. She reminded me of a badass from a book or something. She wore a leather jacket over a black shirt and dark wash jeans with black ankle boots. Most probably thought she was angry and pissed off at the world, but I saw something different.

"Thats a great name," I said, feeling the usual blossom of warmth radiate from my heart when she smiled at me. Not a fake, sarcastic smile. But a smile you give when someone compliments you on something you're usually not complimented on.
