My Girl
They walked hand in hand, young love at its most innocent stages down the road. Thunder sounded overhead but neither took notice too absorbed in themselves as they rightfully should be. Still unaware how close the storm was; unexpectedly to the couple the heavens open up releasing the water.
"Rain darling calm down," He whispered to her under the cover of the bus shelter, as she bounced watching the droplets fall all around.
"My name is Rain; it's like my birth right to be excited!" She took off running into the storm.
"What are you doing we have to be dry when we go to dinner!" He yelled to be heard over the booming thunder, watching her jump in the puddles, excited like the young girl he first fell in love with.
He couldn't help but laugh at her childish ways, it was a refresher from how serious her stock expression was becoming these days. High school was not an easy time socially or academically and she wanted nothing but the ivy leagues.
Stopping at the entrance to the shelter, chest heaving she smiled, "I've lost my mind haven't I?"
"Only slightly but it's not at all a bad thing." The love shone in his eyes brighter than the sun ever could.
"Falling in love at our age is a terrible inconvenience." She stated still yelling over the increased roar of water.
"Oh, and why is that?" He smiled moving closer but trying to stay dry.
"Because what if I do get my ivy league, and you travel away like you want?" She asked shaking her sopping hair off her forehead.
"We live in a country that fought a hundred wars to keep what we have and yet you're asking me if we can survive a little distance?" He asked disbelief in every word.
"Would you fight for me?" She asked looking out into the empty street.
"After fighting for your hand to hold with all my battle wounds; I would still fight with everything I have to keep you." He stepped out into the downpour and lifted her off her feet kissing her deeply.
"I'm surprised you had to ask." And then they were both soaked.
