|Chapter 1|
I curled the last couple pieces of hair and hurriedly threw a scarf around my neck. I sported my new jeans and boots that I got for Christmas and picked up the Kate Spade purse Paul got me. He said he got me the most expensive one he could find so I could "be nicer" to him. I was always nice to him, but his girlfriend got on my last nerve every time I saw her.
I looked at myself in the mirror one last time before jetting down the stairs and into the car.
"Five minutes late," Carson informed. "You're going to make us five minutes late."
"Well excuse me, today is only one of the most important days of my life. I wanted to look pretty," I grumbled and dug through my purse to find my phone. "What will my advisor think of me if I show up looking like a bum?"
"You could never look like a bum, Nova," I heard Carson say as I tapped through my phone. I could feel him rolling his eyes at me. "I don't know why Paul couldn't pick you up himself."
"Holly is with him," I reminded and shuddered. Last time I was in a car with them I contemplated taking the wheel and killing us all. That's how much I've come to hate Holly this past month.
"You even curled your hair," he admired and reach over to touch me, but I slapped his hand away. "Ouch. You're getting stronger."
"Paul's taught me a couple things," I shrugged.
"Was one of those things learning how to have mans hands," he glanced down at the now red mark on his right hand. "My God, woman."
"Calm down," I shook my head at him and called my guardian. He answered in a heartbeat with a soothing deep voice.
"Hello," he answered.
"We're on our way," I told him, breathlessly. A month after admitting to myself that I was in love with him my attraction for him only grew.
"You're going to be late," he told me.
"Five minutes exactly, according to Carson," I joked. Paul didn't laugh and I inaudibly groaned. He was going to be a hardass today.
"Archangels are never late," was all he said before hanging up.
"Ooo, someone's in trouble," Carson commented.
"Step on it," I urged. We got there five minutes late as expected. Paul was waiting outside the expensive looking restaurant impatiently. Holly was by his side, not seeming to care about anything that was going on. I nervously got out of the car and walked towards them as Carson handled things with the valet.
"Five minutes late," Holly stated in her peacoat. She looked stunning with her hair pulled into a tight bun on the top of her head and her black peacoat. She was tall, like a model. She wore dark eyeliner that framed her beautiful gray, almost silver, eyes and she threw on a white scarf. Unlike me she was wearing a dress, tights, and heels.
"You told me to dress casually," I whined and turned to Paul. He had on dark pants and dress shoes. He too wore a nice coat and a white scarf. Except his coat was a dark navy blue. His dark blonde hair was tufted nicely and his hazel eyes met mine. His full lips were pursed tightly.
I was wearing dark skinny jeans and brown booties. I had on a pastel blue coat and the white purse Paul got me. Underneath I was wearing a white blouse.
"Why are you both so dressed up?" Carson asked as he stepped up beside me.
"Why're you here?" Paul averted his eyes to my best friend. Carson grinned goofily, showing all of his teeth.
