[dedicated to Aashi because her works are flawless]

Three days had passed since they last met. In these three days, neither of them had come here to adore us nor did they come to sleep on the cold grass with the cool breeze gushing past their skin. Our light was dimmed because we were worried; because we cared.

In these three days, the only sound that we had heard was of people crying and yelling the names of their loved ones who had just left them. We had heard only the sound of the gun firing which not only had caused blood to cover the streets of our city but had also taken away people's hope that things would be fine.

Suddenly we heard the sound of someone crying, a girl crying and we immediately knew it was her. Her face was buried in her hands and she was shivering. We wanted to go and hug her to make her feel better but all we could do was shine a bit brighter and so we did. But that seemed to have no effect on her and at that moment we knew that the only thing which could make her better was his presence.

"Sarah!"

She heard the same thing as we did; someone was calling her. And we all knew who it was - him.

She wiped her tears in one go, stood on her feet and ran towards him.

He engulfed her in a bear hug as she wept a little more, burying her face in his chest only to feel his heartbeat which was as fast as hers.

"I am scared, Daniel. I am really scared."

"I told you not to come. We could have met tomorrow or day after that, couldn't we?"

"B..u..t .."

"It's okay sweetheart. I am here for you. We are together. And nothing happens to us as long as we are together, alright?"

She did not say a word but her tears, her eyes and her heart said it all.

He walked her to their place and they both together lied on the grass but not leaving each other even for a second. The next moment he got up only to fix his lips with hers. She entangled her fingers in his black hairs to pull him in to feel every bits of his soul.

"I love you, silly."

And that made a small laughter to escape his mouth.

"I love you too!"

He took her hand in his and they both stood up together. He fixed his other hand on her waist and swayed her along to make her smile. She did smile. She did laugh. But that was the last time they danced together.

As they both swayed along, feeling each other's soft gentle touch on their skin, they not only heard the sound of the gun but he also felt one.

She turned around to see the sparks of the gun firing all around her. But none of it hit her.

"Daniel! Wake up sweetie! We need to run away from here. Daniel? Daniel!"

She hold him up in her lap and shook him to wake him up but it was too late by now. His fear had finally come true. He had left her once again.

She stayed their with him on her lap trying to absorb in all the pain that she had just received. It was impossible for her to believe that he had just left him; that there was now no one who would lay down on the cold grass with her; that there was no one to engulf her in bear hugs; that there was now no one to share these dark midnight with her.

The midnight which had brought them together was the same midnight which drifted them apart. But she would always adore them because they fell in love in the midnight.
