Winter's child

Falling flakes of white
Blanketing land in blank light
Only shades of green in sight
Critters roaming, yet seeing?
-Not quite

Child, so bright and fair
You play in snow without a care
Eyes bright as a flare
Curiosity heeding not the word of a hare.

"Go back, for your love's sake
Else you'll drown in the iced lake
For such a death is your fate"
But, you, child, went down, thinking the words
Fake

Life bent to your mind
But nature is nothing of kind
Hair caught in a bind

Slipping on bare feet and ice,
You fell into snow where roots aren't nice
Breaking stiff sheets
-Only a slice
Freezing water keeping you in a grip of vice

Lungs filled with no air
Thus child, once free and fair
Now dead, as was prepared...
