Life is difficult sometimes. It's even harder when you have to fight for survival. The quote goes "survival for the fittest" but is that necessary? Who nowadays is fit and healthy every minute of every day? No one is. Because that's what survival is: health and the chance to achieve your goals. Think of a hummingbird, such a tiny creature yet it's heart beats 1260 times every minute; it must fight for survival, such a beautiful creature shouldn't have to work so hard just to survive; but it has to.

The sun was shining high and bright, making the dreadful Monday morning a more welcoming one. Who knew that sunlight could brighten up your day? Maybe it's the colour, yellow is supposed to be a happy colour.

Caroline was awake yet her eyes weren't open, she knew that her son was up, she could hear him running around in his room; searching for his stuffed bear probably. The sunlight streamed through the curtains of her bedroom, blinding her eyes. Groaning at the brightness, she sat up groggily and swung her feet over the bed until they touched the carpet. Her feet felt soothing against the soft, cream carpet. Just as she was going to stand an arm went around her waist and pulled her back down; she fell on top of another body, giggling.

"I need to get up." She told the mystery man, her voice trying to sound serious but her giggles overpowered the false voice.

"Five more minutes?" The mystery man said, at that moment Alfie yelled out for his mother. "Maybe not."

"Maybe tomorrow? Considering it is Saturday tomorrow, we can sleep in as long as we want." Caroline whispered to him, snuggling into him.

"I would prefer to stay where we are, if I'm being perfectly honest."

"But we can't. I need to get Alfie ready for school and then I need to get ready for work." She pulled herself away from his clingy arms and stood in front of the bed, smiling down at him.

He smiled lightly back at her, taking in all her beauty. "I'm so lucky." He murmured to himself as she shook her head and walked out the bedroom.

"Get up, I'm pretty sure your working today as well as me." The blonde beauty called back to him.

"Let's just call in sick, they'll understand." He joked.

"Nik, I'm being serious." Caroline's voice turned into a laugh as she saw her son run up to her in only his underwear and a hat on his head. "Is this a new fashion sense?" She gasped as he nodded. "You look beautiful, I might need to steal it sometime." Caroline winked at him then walked over to turn the coffee maker on.

Footsteps came from the room she was previously in, she turned around and saw Nik: her boyfriend of 4 years.

"Finally managed to get out of bed?" Caroline said at the same time as Alfie screamed, "DADDY!"

Nik, or otherwise known as Klaus, nodded to her and picked up Alfie, swinging him into his arms and hugging him.

"Morning champ." Klaus roughed up Alfie's hair, his hat falling off during the process.

"You ruined my hair!" Alfie screeched. "It took me ages!" Klaus put the kid down and Alfie crossed his arms, pouting his lips.

The Brit looked up at Caroline. "He certainly learned that from you." He laughed.

"Well he obviously didn't learn that from you." She rolled her eyes.
