Head hung low in shame, Dave just couldn’t stand the pain,

He couldn’t look up at the crowd, at all the judging eyes silently asking why.

He didn’t want to die, but he couldn’t explain,

It didn’t seem right when he tried.

He knew he deserved this, to be hung in front of the crowd,

He just wished he had the chance to make things right,

To let his wife know she was the one and only woman in his life.

The pastor ended his speech, finished listing all the crimes,

Finished making Dave seem like a ruthless cow.

“This is it,” Dave sighed, quickly searching for a familiar face,

He wanted to apologise, he needed to at least give it a try.

Locking eyes for the last time, he opened his mouth to utter two last words,

But didn’t get the chance to let them out.

The rope was pulled and Dave was hung in front of all the judging eyes,

Silently asking Dead Dave why.
