Well, it's over.
The first part of an epic adventure has finished, the last chapter has been read, the epic last sentence written.
I can finally take a break from writing from a girl's point of view. Thank God! I mean, seriously! The only time I got to be myself was writing Sallan's sarcastic lines, and some of Bailan and Bene's pickup lines, which I actually use myself, sometimes.
Anyway, I might as well give you a little information on the story's background, the origin of the OGaC universe, while I have a A/N going.
So, in about mid-June of last year, my best friend Finn came to me with this idea for a story- albeit, a lot darker and grimmer version - and I took a good look at it. It was very similar to the OGaC you can find here, but with a terrible and no doubt psychologically scarring ending that I simply had to change.
Finn said he wanted to write it, but he never follows through with his story ideas... Gets bored and moves on. So I offered to help him, so he'd stay with it. That evolved into co-writing it pretty quickly, and I started adding characters and building the universe surrounding them. Hell, within half an hour I had written the prologue which you can read today.
I had been planning on doing a series with another friend of mine, which never happened, so I figured, why not? I started cranking out chapters and set a tentative date for the first chapter to be published in late July or early August, and finally confirmed it as Wednesday, August 12th... The day after my mother went under a huge surgery. Wait, that's wrong... I started publishing the Wednesday before the surgery, and forgot to put up a chapter on the 12th.
Anyway, that's when I first created the Scrooge & Company account and everything, for me and Finn. But a few chapters in, Finn randomly dropped out, and handed me the full story. Whether or not I could finish this was up in the air, but I decided to give it a shot and it worked.
Which leads me back to my original statement: it's over. But its been fun. Getting to know Ilah and the gang... And writing Ronin. Ronin and Sallan are my favorite characters to write for, Sallan essentially being me, witty and sharp and sarcastic, and Ronin being a complete badass and... Well, hot. If we're being honest, that's my type of woman, the Princess Azula/Toph Beifong/Jo Polniaczek/Sam Puckett kind of gal. And Ronin was originally based on my badass friend Ronin, who oozes badassiness.
Anyway... So, if you survived book one, you should totally read book two, which is being written right this very moment (well, obviously not right this very moment, cause I'm writing this, but I'm fairly confident that by the time you're reading this I will be deeply entrenched in the process of writing it). You'll get better acquainted with the incredible spirit fox Sallan, see if more romance blossoms between Ilah and Bailan, meet a new god who is badass and powerful and hilarious, and basically watch Ilah try to save the world and universe from total destruction... You know, just your basic errand.
That's all I'm going to say so I don't give anything away, so you will all read it when I start the publishing process in June. Because that is so long, between now and then I will write a guide to the OGaC universe that I can update as new things are revealed, and you'll have something to ogle and criticise.
Anyway, thanks for reading, and please stay tuned as the trilogy continues in it's next thrilling installment!
~Jonathan
