Getting into a canoe that is already bobbing in the water is extremely difficult. Everyone else did it with ease but I almost fell in the freezing grody lake water. Luckily, I regained my balance and plopped down on the canoe seat.
"Ready, Anne?" Syd asks from the front. I lost rock paper scissors for who would have to steer the canoe from the back, the most difficult job.
"Nope," I mutter, turning the paddle so we don't hit the rocks.
"LEFT! RIGHT!" Sydney scream from the top of her lungs, stabbing her paddle at a fallen branch.
"I KNOW WHAT I AM DOING! SHUT THE F.UCK UP!" I scream back in frustration.
"Now, now, ladies. Let's watch the language shall we?" Mr. Thomson glides up next to us with a smile. I giggle at the tiny sunglasses that seem to hug his eyeballs.
"Sorry, Mr. Thomson," we both say in unison. His grin widens and he paddles ahead of us.
"You heard the man! Get your damn mother fucking ass moving!" Sydney says and we both burst out laughing.
We keep paddling for about ten minutes, dodging tree branches and rocks. Clouds begin to cover the sun.
"If it rains I will jump in the water and drown myself," Sydney says. I am about ready to chuck the ore into the forest as well.
When I turn my head though, I see the same shadow I saw at the picnic tables only this time it's clearer. I can see the glowing eyes and human like figure.
"Syd!" I shriek. Sydney practically jumps off the seat at my out burst.
"Look, do you see that?" I ask looking at her with wide eyes, jabbing my finger at the shadow.
"There's nothing there, Anne," she sighs.
"Didn't you see-"
It vanished. It completely vanished. I must be going absolutely insane!
"You need some milk," she mutters and begins to paddle again. I huff in frustration and also continue rowing. There was something there, I know it.
After anther twenty minutes, we reach the half point mark. My arms feel heavy and my back aches, Sydney and I even cried a little. Curse Mom for signing me up for this stupid trip. Three canoes have passed us and we witnessed John Blue stand up and fall into the freezing water. That idiot had it coming.
"I can see the shore!" Syd exclaims and so we paddle as fast as we possibly can until the boat hits the sand with a jolt. Thank god that's over. We stretch out are sore muscles before carrying the canoe to the counselor.
The sun has almost set over the water and the rain clouds vanished. Our entire class is sitting at picnic benches eating hot dogs. The boys, being the stupid and immature babies that they are, have decided to suck on them like they are actual dicks.
"I hate fifteen year old boys," Sydney states in a monotoned voice and I nod in agreement. Maybe one day I will be able to talk to an actual boy because whenever I do, my armpits sweat and I switch the first letter of every word that comes out of my mouth.
"Alright kids, time to head back to the cabins for lights out!" the councilor announces. Does he think we are babies?
The class makes the hike back to our cabins and by the time we arrive, our legs feel like they are about to fall off.
"I missed you," I hear Sydney whisper to her bed sheets. I giggle and pull my dirty shirt over my head. The temperature has dropped twenty degrees and of course the cabin isn't heated so everyone is putting on leggings and sweatshirts.
I put on my grey hockey sweatshirt that used to belong to my brother, Caleb. It's my favorite because of the soft fabric inside and it reaches my thighs even though I am five nine.
"It's freezing as fuck in here!" one girl exclaims and everyone concurs. Our counselor that has been assigned to our cabin turns the lights off and the small room turns into complete darkness. The only light is open window that is stuck in the open position which is right next to my bed.
My eyes flutter closed and I am engulfed in sleep.
----------
"Don't worry love," a voice coos. "All you have to do is follow my orders."
My chest rises up and down quickly as I spin my head around and around trying to find the owner of it. I am surrounded by a sea of thick green forest and I have no idea where I am.
"Who are you?" I ask the wind.
"You will see very soon, Anne," it says, the voice fading out with each word. I am left alone with no where to run but into the woods.
----------
I shoot up from my slumber and hit my head on the top bunk. It was only a dream but it felt so real.
"Owww," I mutter rubbing the spot where a bruise is probably forming. Sweat covers my face from my nightmare so I take off my sweatshirt and wipe it down.
When my face emerges from my sweatshirt I come face to face with a dark figure staring at me with large glowing eyes, standing right outside the open window. I open my mouth to scream but a large cold hand is clamped over my chapped lips. My heart is literally pounding out of my chest! I struggle to get the strong hands off of me but its no use.
"Cooperate," it hisses into my ear.
"No!" I mangage to yell. How come no one in the cabin can hear us?
Before I can do anything else, I am put into a deep sleep.
I know that this is really slow right now but bear with me. Xoxo
