Bedlam broke loose in the room when Baker announced that they will be sending more people into the cave.

Apparently the authorities of the camp and the people had unanimously decided that once they find a means of survival they would protect all the lives and would not risk another one in their experiment.

The room erupted into convulsions. "You can't be serious! You said you would protect us!!"

People screamed from everywhere and they refused to listen and refused to vote. The camp officials tried to control the disarray in the room by pushing the battling crowd and restricting them to their seats.

My family was also shocked and exasperated by what they had just heard.

"Be seated everyone! There is nothing we can do to help you if you are not willing to come to terms with our decision. The locket is our only hope and we must try to use it as our weapon against them."

The room fell into a bitter silence. Though some settled down a little, I could still hear the low deploring voices which filled the room.

"We have just found out that it provides us with infinite energy which can help us to survive. We need to study it to make sure it can work on a large number of people, so it can help all of us!" He persuaded.

"I know we are risking one more life but it could help everyone else here and all the other survivors in the world. You need to trust us so we can help you."

The voices went down and I saw that some looked slightly convinced but others still wore a mask of condemnation. I still knew that he was hiding something, like I was from the very beginning. He is trying to bring us all down.

"You can now consent to our decision and have a say in it or we will give you no choice and will choose a person who we think should go into the cave."

"And what if we don't consent?" I heard someone say from behind. I turned to see that it was Rowan. What was he doing? He sure as hell should know what will happen if we don't.

"Then you are all free to leave the camp and die out there without anything or anyone to protect you."

Disapproval filled the room. I was not sure if they were just voices of trepidation or they were deciding whether they should agree with him.

"Where's dad?" I asked as I saw that he was no longer in his seat.

"He has gone to talk to Jonathan. He is Rowan's father. Your father has gone to discuss on what we should do now." My mother told me.

Oliver was talking with two boys his age who were sitting behind us who I presume are his friends here.

I saw my father talking to a man who was almost my father's height if not more. He was in his late forties. Rowan was standing behind his father and was talking to a few others my age. Amber was one of them and she looked terrified. She said that she could have been the next person to go into the cave and what if she will be?

Baker and a few other officials were on stage having a deep conversation. And then he turned to the microphone with a sickening look on his face.

"There will be no voting. We have deliberated and reached a decision." He spoke, catching everyone off guard. I was anxious as to what he was going to say next.

"We wanted to acknowledge your choice which you had made when we last voted. Therefore, we have decided that the next person who will timely help us in our research will be Amber Perkins."
