Chapter 10: Open Your Eyes and See the Truth
I stood up when I heard a car horn. It’s Matt of course, he insisted that Saturdays are our days together. I don’t know why, but I don’t feel really ‘enthusiastic’ about it. Not that I don’t want to be with Matt and also not that I want to be with him. I don’t know, but things really changed a lot. You can’t blame me, he chose to kiss the girl and you can’t blame me again, Geoff told me to forgive Matt.
Ugh. Geoff! That guy, he never talked to me or text me or called me anymore since he told me that we’re not supposed to have something more than acquaintances. He just nods his head or waves his hand every time he sees me with Matt. But damn, when I am alone he’ll do his way on acting like Maieve is a mist of air. I’m not sure but, I am really affected with this. Maybe, because we’ve kissed, or he told me he likes me or he’s someone but, ugh, just forget it!
I went in the passenger seat and gave Matt a smile I glued on my face. He kissed my cheek, I frowned automatically. I still couldn’t stop myself from thinking that those lips kissed Belinda while he is dating with me. Matt noticed the change of expression and eventually just drove to the movies. I refused to go to his house. Why? Because it brings back the memories of what I witnessed myself, you know?
“How’s your day today, sweetie?” Matt tried to start a conversation.
“Uh, fine?” I answered-asked him. I still am reserved to our small chitchats and I just can’t bring myself out when I’m with him.
“Yeah, you sound really fine.” Matt chuckled. I don’t know what’s happening to him. Can’t he take the hint that I am so not into this relationship anymore?
“Still there?” I heard Matt asked, I don’t really want to be rude so I smiled my fakest and faced him.
“Of course. Where would I go?” I told him and forced a chuckle. God! I am so mean to him!
“Nowhere, I am just checking if your mind’s still with me.” WTF?
We arrived in the movie house he bought tickets for a romantic comedy. We went in and sat at the top most. I love watching movies here, don’t get me wrong. I just don’t like it to be super close, but I want to see every single detail.
“I’ll just buy snacks” Matt announced. “What do you want in particular?”
“Uhm,” I thought of cheesy popcorns and hash browns. Not that I want to eat them, but it has the longest line outside. I just need a little bit of space.
“Okaaaay, those have pretty long lines so just wait for me okay?” I nodded part of me wanted to run and go home or hang out with Kelly but the rational part of me told me to stay and be nice.
I needed help though so I decided to call no other than Geoff and talk things with him since Matt is gone. I dialled it once but no answer. I sent him a message saying ‘Please, this is an emergency I really need your help.’ And in no time my phone rang.
“What’s happening Maieve?” Geoff asked with worry in his tone.
“I just need to make this short and simple.” I took a deep breath. “I don’t want to be with Matt and I felt rude of being with him” I started out.
“This is the emergency?” I flinched as his voice rang louder in my ears. “Don’t you know how worried I am with your ‘emergency’?”
“Please, it’s your fault of why I am still with him so just please help me out.” I pleaded.
“I know, and it’s the biggest mistake. But since your already there – where are you guys anyway?”
“We’re about to watch a movie. But his out to buy some snacks. ”I told him so fast because I think we’re running out of time.
