July 31, 3059. That's the date on earth anyway. Here, on Felvus, it is simply known as Doomsday. The day everyone had been dreading for their entire multi-century lifetimes. The day where our planet was going to be engulfed in flames from our sun. We had been told that the government was planning an escape, and although the government was usually trustworthy, everyone was cautious when it came to the survival of our race. Some said that ships were being built, hundreds a day; while others were sure the government had fled and left us to die.
People had tried to sell tickets to the upper class, a certain escape. However, my family, with nearly everyone else, could afford any fancy ships, we were left in the hands of the government.
On the day I was supposed to die, I woke when I usually did. I'm not sure what I was expecting, but I didn't think this day would be so, I suppose, average. I saw all the clothes I had decided to take with me. I pulled my bag out of my closet, and with it came a small doll. It was so old, yet it had so many memories. Seeing this faded bundle of rags, only the size of my hand, I saw the stars I dreamed of as a child. The doll had been given to me by my childhood friend; my first, and only, boyfriend; and when doomsday came to near and he worried for my safety, the boy who went to help the government to save his love. I hadn't been able to look at the doll since.
Until now. She sat in my jacket pocket, bouncing against my stomach as I hurriedly packed. I came out of my room to find the rest of my family doing the same thing. We had been told to be on the outskirts of the town by noon, only four hours before the sun exploded. It was already 11. I walked out of the door to my childhood home for the final time, weather I escaped or died it would be my last time seeing this house.
Everyone walked in silence. At noon, there was nothing different then there had been before, besides a damper set over the group. Suddenly, the ground in front of us burst open, and from the ground rose a giant ship, and not just any ship. It was a recreation of our city. My siblings, along with the rest of the children, ran aboard to find our house. I chased after them, when something caught my eye. A house, one that hadn't been there before, was a short distance away from my house. And standing in the doorway, was the owner of my doll, only this time, he was holding a ring.
