Trumpets!
Pipe organs!
A requiem of screams rose from the depths, playing a horrific chorus to the dead as demonic creatures clung to the walls like lizards.
"—Lydia!" shouted Cameron. "C'mon!"
As I reverted my gaze toward him, light emitted from his body.
Cameron?
My gaze searched for Arion. The demons swarmed him like a body of water. But now and then, a blue glow would push forward, slicing through the dark hoard.
"Cameron, you're glowing!" I shouted.
I turned toward Lucifer, and he noticed the glow as well. And for the first time, I saw fear in his eyes. His deacons rushed toward his aid, shielding him from the light.
"Cameron—please help Arion!" I screamed.
Cameron shrugged his shoulders, "What the hell am I supposed to do?" Pausing briefly, he lifted his arm up to see the glow himself then he shot a glance toward Arion's direction as he bellowed, "O Lord—help me!"
Cameron was no football player, but he had speed—and loads of it, charging into the hoard like a fullback.
A loud crash echoed. Bodies exploded in different directions, strewn across the wooden floor, knocking over the pews like dominos.
Arion was free as he whipped that sword around like a baseball bat, decapitating heads and dismembering limb-after-limb.
"ELIGOR!" roared a thunderous voice, shaking the foundation.
Caim?
I crawled over to a toppled pew where the priests huddled for protection.
"Shhhhhh—" I whispered, relieving the straps that bound them.
"Follow us," whispered one of the priests, crawling on his hands and knees.
"You go—I'll be okay," I said, reverting my gaze back toward Arion.
A hand pressed firmly against my shoulder accompanied by a cold breath, "Come, child—before it's too late. The devil is among us!"
I turned toward the priest and smiled, removing the hand from my shoulder, "Not without my boyfriend!" I hissed.
There was no power struggle as all priests crawled out of the church.
Through the melee, Arion was fighting alongside with Cameron, which was a sight. But then it stopped. Lucifer had left the building, leaving behind his minions to clean up.
"I've been waiting for this moment," said Caim, circling Arion and Cameron.
With a lift of his fingers, a hooded group came forward.
"Handle that one!" ordered Caim, pointing toward Cameron. Then, gripping his sword, flames emitted from it as he pointed toward Arion. "Shall we...."
Caim aggressively attacked first, swooping down, sending sparks with each hit.
I couldn't take my gaze off them, snaking my way closer to the action.
Arion went on the defense, blocking each assault. Evenly matched, it was hard to determine who had the upper hand. Caim's supernatural form was daunting as he towered Arion.
Their swords collided again, but this time clinging like magnets. Fire blazed from Caim's sword while a blue flame roared, spitting bright sparks from Arion's.
