The speed limit was forty miles per hour. Asag was doing eighty-five and climbing. But I wasn't going to tell him how to drive. Astonished at how his stubby legs were able to reach the gas and break pedals and still able to see over the steering wheel, I just kept my mouth shut. This little demon wasn't one to trifle with, especially how he lifted Cameron up with relative ease.
—Cameron?
I glanced over toward the back seats. Cameron was crashed out.
Rest.
We were both tuckered out.
The soft glow from Arion's sword kept the entire back seats lit up as I reverted my gaze toward the front, cringing from Mr. Maniac behind the wheel.
"Watch out!" I shot out, lifting my knees and embracing for impact.
"Got it—Relax!" shot back Asag.
"Seriously? In one piece—please!"
"We have to beat six hundred sixty-six—"
"—There's a wall." I interrupted.
"—Legions of Lucifer's elite—"
"—The wall!" I interrupted again.
"—Lydia—Let me handle it!" interrupted Asag.
"—ASAG!" I screamed.
Just before impact, a green glow enveloped the black Cadillac, and it lifted up transitioning from driving on the road to driving up the wall of an apartment building. I couldn't believe my eyes as gravity kept me pressed down firmly into the leather seat.
"Running out of wall!" I squealed, closing my eyes.
But the black Cadillac increased speed as if to launch off the side of the building like a daredevil biker, launching off of a ramp. The only difference was no curve. We were heading straight up. I could hear the sounds of glass shattering as the wheels rolled over each apartment window.
Suddenly, a woman was putting out a pot of plants just ahead of us.
"Watch it!" I shouted, digging into the leather upholstery.
Asag slammed on the horn. The eyes of the woman went white as someone pulled her in just as we rolled over her window. And as the Cadillac reached full velocity, it shot straight up, launching into the sky. Just like a roller coaster ride as it reached the acme of no return, we were airborne momentarily as everything slowed down. In slow motion, the Cadillac started to rotate, beckoning gravity's call. Then, the gravitational pull sucked us up all the way back down.
"ASAG!" I bellowed.
Not a roller coaster ride—Or, was it? Still, in slow motion, this roller coaster was in a free fall, and we were picking up velocity, plummeting back to the street below.
"Hang on!" barked Asag, letting go of the steering wheel and closing his eyes.
Dude—Seriously?
The green glow intensified, slowing our free fall.
Impossible!
Rather than falling, the black Cadillac soared through the sky like a jet.
"What!" snapped Asag, winking directly at me as he added, "You thought your boyfriend was the only one that could fly, did ya?"
I responded in kind with nothing more than a smile. But on the inside, I was screaming my bloody brains out.
"What the hell!" shouted a voice from behind.
"Cam! You're up?" I yelped, startled.
"What the—HELL!" screamed Cameron a second time, strapping into his seat belt as he continued, "O—dear Lord I'm gonna die!"
