Skylar J.
"Come on, Skylar, let' get going!" my pest of a best friend called from the bottom of the staircase.
"Okay, okay, I'm coming." I ran down the stairs as quickly as possible, jumping down the last few. "Sometimes, you can be so annoying."
"Hey, it's your ass on the line," she said as she walked out the door. "If we're late, you're the one that's going to die, not me."
"Yeah, yeah, yeah, whatever," I said as I brushed her off. I slipped on my Jordan's and followed her out the door.
I locked the door behind me and hopped into the backseat of the car beside Katherine. Her mom started the car and turned on the radio to our favourite radio station.AS she backed out of the driveway, I heard something from the radio that I must've imagined.
"Up next is Darren Espanto with his new single, 'Stuck.'"
Darren Espanto. There was a name I thought I'd never have to hear again, but I guess I was wrong, 'cause there it was, right now, on the radio. What were the chances that this was the same guy from two years ago? Apparently, a hundred percent because that was definitely his voice. I'd recognize that voice anywhere. This was definitely the boy that left me two years ago.
"Skylar Jerome, snap out of it!" Katherine yelled, followed by a quick slap to the face. I blinked a few times and looked around. I suddenly realized that we were already at the school. I hopped out of the car and followed her into the school.

"Everyone gather around," the coach said as he walked towards the center of the gym. I glanced in his direction but decided to ignore him and continued shooting the ball into the net.
"I said, everyone gather around," he repeated, slightly irritated. He gave me a warning look.
"Don't get your panties in a twist," I muttered before I shot the ball once more and joined the rest of the team in the middle of the gym.
He cleared his throat and started speaking. For most of it, I tuned him out until he mentioned the name Darren.
"I'm sorry, what was that?" I asked.
"I said that my nephew, Darren, would be joining us today." I could tell by his voice that his patience with me was wearing thin.
My whole body tensed up at the mention of his name. It can't possibly be him. Please don't make it him.
And it's just my luck because the same face that I haven't seen for two years suddenly appears before me. He's grown a lot taller since then, and he now fits his facial features. His hair no longer hangs down into his eyes. Instead, it was gelled up into a quiff at the top of his head. If I didn't hate him so much, I might just have been attracted to him. But I hated his guts.
"Hi, I'm Darren," he said in an all too cheerful voice. He looked around at all of the girls on the team. When his eyes landed on me, his gaze lingered.
He squinted at me as if he was trying to remember something. That only made me want to run out of the practice just that much more.
"Do I know you?" he asked. He didn't remember. This was my chance to pretend like I was someone else, and I took it.
"No," I responded. I crossed my arms and glared at him.
"Are you sure?" he asked.
"I don't know you," I said with a note of finality in my voice.
"Enough chit chat, ladies," the coach said as he pulled out the bag of pinnies we used for practices. "Team captains today will be Daren and Skylar. Skylar, you're pinnies." He handed me a dark blue pinny.
A smug smile spread across my face as I grabbed the pinny and pulled it on over my practice shirt.
We divided the team into two separate groups, and immediately started the game.
There were moments when Darren's team had possession of the ball and moments when they shot, but my team had the ball the majority of the time. In the end, we won 43-15.

As I sat on the edge of the sidewalk and waited for my mom to come pick me up, I started to think about Darren. The determination in his eyes as he drived the ball to the net. The same determination that convinced me to climb that tree in grade three and the way he managed to sneak his way past everyone, the way he managed to sneak his way past me two years ago. It was all too familiar.

Welcome to the first chapter of the rewrite. As you can see, I went for something that's a little different than what I had before and I'm hoping you like this just as much as you liked the other version
