Clock Tower

The next day, I decided to go to the clock tower like the note said. I got dressed, putting on a cute navy blue top with white letters saying Waves for life, I threw on a pair of skinny jeans with my white high top converse.  I got an apple out of the kitchen as I started towards the tower.

As soon as I got there I started looking for another note. I looked around each column and around each corner.  Finally, I found it sitting in one of the window sills.  It looked the same as the first one, with the same sticker, and the same handwriting.

So you came.  I'm impressed.  Now you are to go to the new cafe on main street.  Go to the cashier and ask for Amy, then order a large iced caramel frappe with rainbow sprinkles.  She will lead you to the next clue.  Goodbye for now.

I felt like I was being watched so I looked around to see if there was anyone eyeing me. I didn't see anyone but I knew the writer of the note was here. Somewhere. Hiding from me out in the open.

I gritted my teeth and crumpled up the note in my hand.

What gives this person the right to watch me, to tell me what to do? I thought.

I stormed away from the tower, already on my way to Brin's house.

"Now I'm pissed" I said to Brin as we went into her room.

"Why?" She asked.

I showed her the note and she read it. She didn't look as mad as I was.

"What's the problem with it?" She asked.

"EVERYTHING!" I said.

"Well you did decide to find the second note." She said.

"Yeah I know, but you weren't there with me. You couldn't feel them watching you as I did."

"Them who?" She asked.

"The person who wrote the notes. The person who is sending me on this hunt." I said trying my best to stay calm.

"You are sending yourself on this hunt, don't try blaming other people for your problems!"
Brin said.

"Without the first note I wouldn't even be on this scavenger hunt!!" I screamed.

Brin looked upset because I yelled at her.

"I'm sorry Brin, I didn't mean to yell, it's just these notes. They're making me crazy. You know how long I've wanted to find out what happened since the explosion. I'm so so so sorry Brin." I pleaded.

"GET OUT!" She screamed.

"Brin please don't" I begged.

"I SAID GET OUT!!!!!" She yelled as she shoved me out her door.

I started crying as I ran down the street. I don't know where I was headed but I knew that I wanted to run.

I ended up at a club downtown named The Loft. I tucked the note deep into my jacket pocket, considering I don't know what to expect, because I've never been here before.

I stepped inside and I could barely see because of the strobe lights. The music was extremely loud. I liked the song though, First of the year by Skrillex. I looked around to see where I should go, I decided to just go sit by the bar.

"Water please" I said to the bartender, who looked at me weird. I guess no one has ever ordered water here before.

As I sat and drank my water, I looked around at the people and watched their behavior. I saw drunk girls getting taken advantage of by sober guys who wouldn't have gotten the girls in any other situation. There were also lots of people making out on the couches that surrounded the club walls. I wanted to go dance but I knew that I would just end up looking stupid and embarrassing myself.

"Are you from Tennessee cause your the only ten I see?" said a random guy who came up to me.

"No thanks" I said a little bit disgusted. The guy walked away as I got a refill on my water.

"Wow, that was bad" said a handsome guy that I didn't even notice was sitting a couple chairs down from me. His eyes were brown, a beautiful deep brown, his jawline was perfectly chiseled. His hair looked ruffled but neat, I could tell it was a black.  I couldn't see all of his features but I could tell that he was in great shape, he was in a muscle  tee and I could see that his arms were big. He must workout, I thought.

"I know right, I hate pickup lines like that. They're so cheesy." I said.

"Really, cause I was gonna try one that I've been wanting to say to you for a few minutes." He said charmingly.

"Ok" I said "Go for it."

"If you were a Transformer, you'd be a hot-obot, called Optimus Fine." He said with a smile.

"And I thought the Tennessee one was bad." I said laughing.

"Ok, I see how it is" he said jokingly acting like he was going to leave.

"No, I'm kidding, please stay." I said trying to not sound as desperate as I was.

"Ok, but only if you dance with me." He said.

"Sure" I said willingly.

We got onto the dance floor. I looked around and it seemed like we were the only sober ones there. Everyone else seemed oblivious to us.

"Whats your name?" I asked him realizing we had been talking without even really introducing ourselves.

"Joshua, but most people just call me Josh."

"Nice to meet you Josh, I'm Avalon." I said.

"A beautiful name for a beautiful woman." He said with a charming smile. I hoped at that moment that he couldn't see me blushing.

A little bit after we started dancing a guy came up behind me and started grinding against me. I pushed him away but he came back. Josh told him to go dance with someone else but he just got mad and pushed Josh. I told him not to, but Josh punched the guy right in the face. His nose started to bleed. Before the guy could throw a punch of his own, the security escorted me and Josh out.

"That place is dumb anyway" Josh said trying to lighten the mood.

At this point it was almost one in the morning and I wanted to go home and go to bed.

"Hey, I think I'm gonna go home.  I'm really tired." I said sleepily.

"Ok.  Let me walk with you." He said.

"Sure"

We walked  to my house, which was about two miles away, and talked all the way.  We talked about my life and his.  Apparently he is a mechanic who works at the Grease Monkey Tire Shop down town.  His family owns the place and it has been here since the town started.  I told him that my parents died when I was young and now I live with my foster mom and her two kids, but I didn't tell him about my scars.  I mean, why did he need to know that?

We got to my house and it's like I thought it would be, all the lights were out and the doors were locked.  Luckily I knew where the key was, despite Christy trying too hide it from me.  I said goodbye to Josh after we exchanged numbers.

He seems like a good guy I thought. Why not give him my number.

I went up to my room and fell onto my bed, only moments after had I fallen asleep.
