When the bell signaling the end of the school day rang, Demi was out of her seat before it ended. She snatched up her satchel and made her way to the door as fast as she could. What she wouldn't give to be out of the fancy brick building. She found her locker and dumped in the books that she didn't need for that night's work, and started to speed walk to the front doors. She passed the waterworks, the office, and the plants before finally making it through the crowd of spoiled kids to the main doors.
Demi gulped in the outside world. She felt as though a great burden had been lifted off her shoulders with her exit of the building. Without bothering to wait there for her brother, she made her way to their old car in parking lot C - the furthest parking lot away from the school on this side of the building. Her foot clipped the perfectly flat pavement and she dropped her cell phone.
"Oh, come on!" She picked up the pieces of the old white Motorola Razor and snapped it back on. The cell phone had been dropped so many times, she was surprised it wasn't dead yet.
"There she is." She glanced up at the slightly familiar voice. Brad was sitting on the hood of the car she and her brother shared.
"How the hell did you get out here so fast? School just got out a minute ago." She frowned.
"Yeah, well, my last class is a load of bull, so I nearly always skip." She stood up and opened the back door for her to toss her bag into.
"Yeah? What class?" Demi tried to keep the conversation on school, not in the mood to talk about herself.
"History. Pointless. Do you have history?" He asked, sliding his hands into his pockets.
"Yeah, first block." She said. "Do you not like Mr. Dalton, or is it the class?" She tried to turn on the phone she'd dropped, but it wasn't working.
"I don't really enjoy listening to all the drama Alison starts. She's a bit crazy." He took the phone from her and re-adjusted the battery, snapping it back into place. Brad flipped it open and typed something in on the keys before handing it back to her.
"She's way past crazy if you ask me." Brad grinned down at her. "Thanks." She smiled and held up the phone. "For the fix and the number." She saved it and snapped the cell phone shut.
"No problem." He reached out and took hold of one of her hands. Demi took a step back from him, backing into the now closed door of her car. There was a giggle down the row of cars she was parked in, and she glanced up to see Alison, Courtney, and Hayley all watching. "See you tomorrow."
"See you."
Brad didn't seem to notice the more than annoying pack of gossiping girls, and bent down slightly to kiss her quickly before walking off towards the school. Do they do that in Spain? She asked herself.
"Look ladies!" Alison called. "Scholarship kid's a slut, too!"
She's just jealous, Dem. Ignore her!...Well she's the one with the swim captain, isn't she? Why would she be jealous of a scholarship kid? She's just trying to make my life miserable.
"Ready to go?" There was a honk and the old Ford honked in the middle of the Porsche and Mustang filled parking lot. Aiden climbed in and Demi quickly followed her brother's lead.
"Let's get out of this crazy house." She muttered, more to herself than to Aiden.
"Do you know who that is?" She brother pointed at Alison as he backed out.
"Are you for real?" She found herself laughing. "You just spent a whole day at Mystic Falls and you don't know who that is?" He raised his eyebrows telling her silently to shut up and tell him. "That's Alison Harven. She is literally the queen of the school. She won't ever get kick out no matter what she does because of how much her dad pays. All the guys love her, and all the girls want to be like her. Well, almost, anyway."
"She's hot." He stated.
"She's an ass! You don't know what I've had to go through today!" Demi pulled off her heels and laid her feet up on the dashboard. "She's definitely the worst person I've met my entire life."
"Have a good night!" The security guard waved a hand to them and they waved back at the gates swung open to let them off the grounds of Mystic Falls, school for the wealthy.
"So how was your day?" Demi walked into the kitchen to see her Mom making dinner.
"Pretty good, I think." She said after a pause, thinking about Brad, Fred, and Chelsie.
"You think? Well, it can't be that great if you have to think about it." Her Mom cracked an egg into the mixing bowl. Demi dropped her bag on the breakfast bar and walked over to help her after tossing her shoes to the door.
"It was fine, Mum." She turned the page in the recipe book and picked up the packet of cookie mix, cutting the top open, and dumping the contents into the glass mixing bowl. Once they'd pushed the cookie platter into the over, Demi walked up to her room and looked down at the History assignment she'd been given. Seven thousand words on the French Revolution, due the next morning. Demi opened her laptop and started typing, ignoring the video chat request from Ron.
