Shit, he had done it again.
Gage stared at the mug in his hand and grimaced at the memory of Aurora's face. The way she looked when he had angrily snapped at her, flung the bitter truth in her face. She had looked like he had struck her but instead of backing down she had straightened up higher and lifted her chin at him, his brave little brat.
He sighed, running a hand through his dark hair. He hadn't meant to hurt her. Hell, he never means to hurt her but in the end he always does. It's like he was programmed to hurt her without meaning to. But she had wanted the truth. He had seen it in her eyes. Aurora had been practically begging him to finally say what they've all known but avoided saying. So he had.
Gage stared at the mug, jaw clenching. Once again he ended being the bad guy for someone else's sake.
"You alone, suga?"
Gage spared a brief glance at the striking blond beside him before dismissing her. "Yeah and I'd like to keep it that way."
"Aw," she purred, running a red manicured hand down his arm, "don't be like that."
Gage continued to ignore her, chugging down the rest of the beer in the mug before slamming it down and signaling the bartender for another refill. His fifth one in fact.
"You seem lonely," the woman went on, this time her hand landing on his thigh. "Why don't we go somewhere to play, baby?"
Gage finally looked at her, eyes roaming to her cherry painted lips, white throat and generously exposed cleavage. They strained against the red cocktail dress she wore and seemed to poke out more when she crossed her legs on the stool next to him, revealing white shapely legs through the split of the dress.
"Like what you see?" The blond bombshell smiled temptingly.
His eyes landed back on the curve of her white neck. He could practically hear her blood rushing...her pulse beating...
"Yeah, actually I do."
How long has it been since he's fed? Because of his 'unique' condition he could eat human food to keep himself nourished enough without seeking human blood but it only went so far. It only dimmed the hunger for a little while. It seemed like the more human food he ate the more the craving for blood grew later.
"So what do you say?" She smiled, "you wanna leave this dump?"
When the bartender set the refilled mug back down in front of him, Gage snatched it and chugged the liquid down in one swig. Wiping his mouth with the back of his hand, he grabbed fifty dollars from his pocket and threw it on the table. "Keep the change."
He took the woman's hand and drew her with him towards the back of the bar where there was an exit to the back alley. He could feel his hunger climbing with every step he took. If his increasing hunger hadn't been distracting him then he would have sensed that something wasn't right about the woman. That once they stepped out the door, three figures that had been watching them also exited another direction.
