"Sans. Promise me something?" Alisa asked as they packed up camp. Sans looked at her.
"Promise? You know I don't do those." He reminded her as he continued to put stuff away. Sans was glad they got some extra dimensional boxes from Alphys.
"Please?" Alisa pleaded as she turned to look at him. Sans sighed and looked at her.
"Fine." He answered and she smiled gratefully.
"Promise that you if things get bad in there, you'll leave me and get you and Shadow to safety?" Alisa said. Sans snapped his head towards her.
"What?! No! I will not leave you with those monsters Alisa!" He told her. She looked at him.
"Sans, they would kill you in a heartbeat. Me, no matter what they can't afford to kill me. First of all, I'm a public face now and so if I die, that's going to be all over the news. Second, the last time a magician died, it took them four years to find the newest ones. The most they'll do is beat me." Alisa told him and Sans growled.
"I won't let them lay one hand on you Alisa. You are too important to me." He said and hugged her. Alisa hugged back.
"Just... please Sans. I don't want you hurt or dead because of me." Alisa pleaded and Sans sighed, this girl.
"Fine. I'll teleport out with Shadow if it gets bad and I can't get to you in time okay?" He answered and Alisa smiled gratefully before lightly kissing his teeth.
"Thank you Sansy." She said before finishing packing up. Sans nodded solemnly before poofing away the last of their stuff to his box.
A rustle in the bushes sounded and they turned towards the source. Shadow growled lowly as the rustling got louder while Sans pushed Alisa behind him and readied his magic for an attack.
A small fox kit walked out of the bush and looked at them, almost fearful, until it's eyes landed on Alisa and bounded over to her. The girl looked at the kit in surprise as it looked up to her.
"Hello little one, are you lost?" She asked it as she gently picked it up. The kit shook it's head and hit its paw on her nose playfully. Alisa giggled softly as she rubbed the kit's ears, making it lean into her hand.
"This little one is really friendly with you babe. It's strange." Sans said as he watched the two. Alisa shrugged as she cradled the kit in her arms.
"I think... She's my familiar." Alisa announced as she rubbed the kit's tummy. It was a girl, she realized, as the small kit played with her hand some.
"You're familiar? How do you know?" Sans asked. Alisa shrugged as she continued to play with the kit.
"A magician and their familiar can sense it, as a bond is made before they even meet usually. I have to say this little one is just old enough to eat normal food, no longer drinking her mother's milk. I think I'm going to call her... Rune." She explained and Rune yipped happily at its new name before climbing up and curling around Alisa's neck, looking like a fur scarf almost.
"She's kinda cute, not nearly as cute as you though Babe. It's pretty pawsome." Sans joked with a grin and Alisa giggled in response.
"Your puns are both a blessing and a nightmare sometimes Sansy." She answered and Sans only continue to grin widely at her.
"You love them either way though Babe. Come on, let's hurry up and get moving already." He told her and she nodded before grabbing his hand and starting their journey again. Shadow sniffed the air around them before following behind.
They were getting near.
