Hello, it's Vickeh - and I am here to bring forth yet another reader insert. This was requested by FabGrellSutcliff on Wattpad for who knows how long (it's been about 6 months since they requested this I'm so sorry). As you know I'm super slow so yeah I don't know how I managed to finish this. Well, please enjoy this anyhow. Since I haven't watched Pandora Hearts in forever, I'm sorry if he seems off character...
----------------------------------------------------
Due to strange circumstances, a man named Gilbert Nightray had become your teacher in self defense. Well, in any case, you didn't exactly like him mostly because of the seldom look on his face that'd always been there. It seemed like his facial expression carried all of his experiences and grievances from some sort of dark past. Maybe it was tragic or whatever, you didn't care one bit as long as you learned to protect yourself from potential threats.
One day, in the middle of a lesson, you got a tad bored and decided to take a break without his knowledge. You snuck out of the room as quietly as possible to avoid getting noticed. As you left the room, you looked around only to see a horrifying creature coming straight at you. You shrieked in terror.
You later awoke drenched in your own sweat. You weren't sure whether what happened was a dream or reality. You soon realized that it must have been reality because as you tried to get up, you noticed that your waist was bandaged heavily. It stung, and badly. You slowly unwrapped the bandage to reveal a large, bloody gash there. You instantly wrapped yourself back up, but you couldn't get rid of the feeling of nausea building up in your stomach.
"Oh you're awake, how are you feeling?"
You immediately turned your head to see a man dressed in all black. Gilbert Nightray. He was no longer wearing his seldom expression, rather, he was wearing something more of a worried one. This piqued your interest - the change of his expression. Maybe it was because you'd never seen it change before, but all you knew was that it seemed...enticing almost. You then took notice of a bloodstained cloth wrapped around his wrist.
"I'm feeling fine," you said softly - though you were lying, "But...what about you? Did you get hurt trying to save me by any chance?"
"It's okay, it'll heal by tomorrow," he said, he was probably lying too. "Yours...yours may never fade. Sorry I got there too late, but please don't ever go out on your own again. I know this was my fault, and I failed to ensure your safety." You shook your head in denial, you knew you were the one at fault for sneaking out like that. You couldn't help the feeling that it'd all been your fault.
"I'm really sorry about your wrist, if you wouldn't mind...would you like me to wrap the injury properly?" you asked looking down, "To return the favor, since you helped me."
He chuckled, "Wow, you know, my first impression of you was that you were just some spoiled rich brat. Guess I've been proved wrong." You shook your head at this as you started to wrap his wound,
"You were right, actually. At first I honestly didn't care about you in the slightest, but now, my opinion of you has changed."
He stared at you for a second, and then said, "How has your opinion changed?"
You looked up at him, "Why don't you try and figure it out?" You finished wrapping his injury by then. You then glanced back down at his hand, you still felt a twinge of guilt looking at harm you indirectly inflicted on him. "...I'm really sorry about this."
You gently took his damaged hand in yours and then brought it up to your cheek, "Sorry...," you said again.
Almost a second after, you'd realized what you'd done and immediately snapped your hands back.
He chuckled, "Well, do you always hold peoples' hands like that?" Pouting, you shook your head violently.
"It was just...instinct! Yeah, I felt bad for letting you get hurt..." It was silent for a moment.
Once again, he chuckled. You looked up at him, irritated because he laughed at you worrying over his well-being. You thought that he should've been honored to receive your pity and worry. Or...that's what you would have thought normally. But you realized that he was a bit different than the other men you had met in the past. Though they were a pure golden color, his eyes were filled with somberness and shadows of the past. This was an alluring factor, really. Not that you'd ever admit it.
Avoiding eye contact, you stood up and tried to leave the room. It stung to stand. "I really am stupid for falling for someone like this," you thought, "And this all happened within the last few minutes...how pathetic."
Nonetheless, you knew you wouldn't be able to give on him.
Suddenly, you felt his chest pressed against your back. Eh? What...is happening? A strong pair of arms wrapped around your torso. You were being gently embraced. He kissed your head tenderly and patted it a little. Your body tensed up and your face flushed.
"Y/N...," he whispered, "It's odd really. It seems to be that I've taking a liking to you. Would you keep me company a while longer?"
"That's not playing fair...," you thought. You couldn't help the feeling that he was treating you like a child, patting your head and such...not that you really cared about that as long as you could change his perspective of you. You didn't dwell too long on this and so you ended up turning around and hugging him back. Of course he was a little taken aback, but he didn't seem to mind it much.
"...Don't get me wrong okay? This...this is just returning the favor okay?"
"Haha, as you wish my lady."
