Amy POV
"Amy!!! Can you make me some lasagna or something for dinner tonight?" My lazy Father called from the living room, where he sat drinking beer and watching football.
"Dad, you know I can't cook tonight!" I called to him, reaching down to pick up my violet bag, I swung it over my shoulder. I began to make my way to the front door, "I have to go to work, Mrs. Shaniqua will not accept tardiness." I stated as my Father got up from his recliner with a grunt and strutted up to me, taking a swig of his beer on the way.
"Oh yeah, your stupid 'sweet slut' job." He said getting up in my face with a nasty smirk, his breath stunk of alcohol.
"Ugh," I grumble, turning my face away. "Look, I need to get paid so I can go to scho-" I began.
"Hey Amy, maybe we can skip dinner and go straight to dessert?" He purred, staring at me pervertedly.
"Excuse me?! I am not a dessert you creep!" I yell, utterly disgusted by my father's suggestion. I look up to see him pull a flexed hand back and he suddenly smacked me across the face, knocking me down onto the cold hardwood floor. My bag slid off my shoulder and across the floor, bumping against the door with a small *thud*
"Don't you EVER talk to me like that again, Amy Rose! I am your father and you shall treat me as such!" He paused momentarily as I stare up at him, tears welling in my emerald green eyes.
"And, I am allowed to do whatever I please..." He added, giving an evil smirk.
I place a trembling hand on my cheek where I had been slapped, and stood up to face my father. With a sudden rush of courage, I stared as he took another swig of his beer, then I punched him in the gut, hard. He stumbled back, choking on the foul smelling beverage. I turned on one heel and walked out the door, picking up my little violet bag on the way out...Normal/Narrator POV
This was quite an accomplishment for Amy. She had never really stood up to her father in such a way before. The awful man only seemed to want to please himself and to make her life miserable. So Amy had given up, and chose to wait for something- or someone- to save her from this dreaded life she lived. Amy gave a small smirk as she walked confidently down the street to the sweet shoppe she worked at. Her father was most likely going to kill her when she returned home, but so what? Amy had finally found theslightest amount of courage in herself and wanted to grasp it for as long as she possibly could.
The lovely pink hedgehog continued walking down the street, her bag slung over her right shoulder and her head held high, as she arrived at her destination. It was a twelve-foot-tall building that had recently had a new paint job, with bright candy colors, and a new sign labelled, "Shaniqua's Sweet Shoppe!" Amy grinned at the familiar sight before pushing through the fancy spinning doors, and walking inside. Quickly, she made her way through the brightly coloured dining area and entered the back where the workers were. Three girls stood in the back, it seemed they had been anticipating her arrival. One was washing dishes and the other two were preparing desserts. The girl who was washing dishes was a sixteen-year-old, sly looking bat. Her large black wings remained folded and her white hair gently brushed her shoulders. She was wearing her usual dark blue eye-shadow and shimmering lip-gloss. She turned quickly to Amy, who had just slipped through the door before turning back and sending a backwards wave.
"Hey, about time you showed up." She said in her usual sassy tone.
The second girl, who was preparing desserts was a tall, orange cat. She was wearing a bright candy-cane coloured dress, with a bright red bow to match on her head. She sent Amy a huge grin and gave her a quick, yet tight hug.
"Hey, you made it!" She giggled happily. "Glad your Dad didn't get in the way, he's such a jerk."
Amy laughed. "Its good to see you, Sunny."
She turned to the sassy bat.
"You too, Rouge."
The last girl, or should I say, woman came up to Amy and placed a bright blue and white dress into her arms.
"Put this on Amy," demanded the hazel colored bunny. "Its our new uniform."
Amy, gave a slight sigh, but did as the candy-crazed bunny requested. Amy quickly walked into the change room and pulled on the bright blue dress, resting a cute blue bow on her head. As she came out, the hazel bunny in a yellow dress shoved at least twelve plates at her, at once.
"These are all to table seven."
"Yes Mrs. Shaniqua." She nodded, as Mrs. Shaniqua nodded quickly, then turned and resumed with ordering the girls around.
Amy balanced the plates on her hands, arms and her head as she stepped out of the backroom and into the dining area. Amy's eyes almost immediately locked with table seven, and she didn't want to believe who she saw. There, sitting at the table, was Sally Acorn and her goon squad. Amy groaned in her head.
"Fan-freakin-tastic!" She muttered.
Holding her head high, Amy walked swiftly and silently to their table. Some strange hedgehog from table five started snickering.
"Hey sweetie," Said one of the guys, Amy ignored the comment.
"Why don't you come home with me tonight, baby?" Amy sent a disgusted look to the group, but it only encouraged them more. Amy continued to walk to table seven, doing her best to ignore the creeps of table five, but they were to persistent. The first one got up, and tried to snake his arms around her waist from behind.
"Come 'ere baby, lets get outta here." Amy started to grit her teeth in anger. In one swift move, she lifted her leg and slammed the heel of her boot hard between his legs. He fell to his knees as if begging for mercy. Amy simply shrugged and looked down to the idiot and said a sarcastic, "Sorry," then turned around, continuing her trip to table seven.
Sally spun around in her seat at the sound of Amy's approaching footsteps. The moment she saw the pink hedgehog approaching her table, with all the plates on her arms and head, a smirk made its way across her face.
"Well, well, well," Sally sneered.
"Its little miss Rose," she paused, taking in Amy's appearace with her bright blue and white dress.
"And it appears that she is playing dress-up." Sally smiled wickedly to her group before turning her cold blue eyes back to Amy.
"Hey Rose! That outfit makes you look like the sky, oh sorry, not like the sky, as big as the sky!" She snickered. Amy looked down at her dress, feeling her cheeks growing hot with embarrassment. Poor Amy hung her head low, taking a sudden interest in the red and white boots on her feet, too ashamed to show her face.
Hastily, she placed the dished of dessert onto the table for Sally and her goons.
"Enjoy your sweets." She said, her voice shaking as she continued with the line she was meant to say to each customer.
"And i you need anything else, don't be afraid to ask." As Amy turned to leave, Sally called out to her.
"Hey waitress! Where is the Coke I ordered, its taking you forever with our order!" She yelled impatiently, Amy sighed.
"I'm on it ma'am." Oh how I would love to punch that squirrel in the face. Amy thought, trying to regain confidence.
Sally laughed. "Oh yeah, and don't forget to get my friends here some root beer and ice tea while you're at it."
Amy nodded, still looking at her boots. As quickly as she could, she walked into the backroom and slammed the door shut. Rouge and Summer gave her strange looks.
"Are you alright." Summer asked.
"You seem upset." Rouge agreed.
Amy gave a sad sigh, wiping her teary eyes.
"I'm okay." She said, her voice shaking slightly. She then walked to the large storage fridge where the drinks were kept, feeling too upset to talk to her friends.
"That poor girl..." She heard Summer sigh from the backroom.
Amy grabbed a can of Coke and several cans of root beer and ice tea. A single tear ran a trail down her soft cheek, she wiped away her sadness with the palm of her gloved hand. She wasn't about to go crying in front of Sally and her friends. Lifting her head high and plastering a bright smile on her face, Amy walked past Summer and Rouge on her way to the dining area, striding confidently toward table seven. Amy smirked as she noticed the idiots of table five from earlier had left. Amy was feeling pretty good about herself as she placed the coke can in front of Sally and placed the many cans of root beer and ice tea in the middle of the table for the taking.
"Amy?" She heard someone call her name from somewhere in the diner, although she was unsure where from. As Amy had her back turned, one of Sally's goons took their pop can, and held it beneath the table and shook it, lifting it back out.
"Excuse me, but could you open this for me?" She asked.
"Yeah, sure." Amy said with a smile. As Amy heard the click of the pop can as it opened, the pop spurted out of the can like a geyser, spraying all over her! She let out a small scream, directing everyone's attention to her. Amy stood there with her jaw dropped in shock as some of the cold root beer dripped into her mouth. Amy quickly rubbed a gloved hand over her face, clearing the fizzy liquid from her eyes, her face burning red with embarrassment.
Sally and her goons were laughing their asses off!
"You're such a freking retard!" Sally snorted, clearly enjoying herself.
Amy felt tears welling up in her eyes, she had never felt so humiliated in her life. She then realized that Sally's friend must have shaken the can she had been asked to open. Tears streaming down her pop covered visage, Amy hurried into the backroom again but did not speak to Summer or Rouge. She just stripped herself of the bright blue dress and bow, revealing her usual red dress beneath, slapped the uniform onto the counter and ran out of the diner. Amy dashed down the street, not stopping until she reached home. It was obvious that her Father was not going to be happy that she was home, but at the moment she truly didn't care. Amy's shoes pounded against the sidewalk as she ran down the street. A tear rolled down her cheek and splashed down onto the cement. She panted in between quiet sobs as she ran down the sidewalk.
Finally, Amy came to a sudden stop at the driveway of her home. The building was quite run-down. The windows were cracked, the door was chipped and stripped of its paint, and the hinges were squeaky. The roof was insecure and let in a draft. Amy closed her eyes, picturing what it used to look like. The way it was when her Mother was still here... When she opened her jade green eyes, she saw the run down house had become just as sparkling as it once was. The windows were clear and shimmering, the door was a smooth mahogany and the shingles on the roof looked as if they were brand new. Amy smiled softly, raising a trembling hand to the silver doorknob and walking into her home. When she opened the door, her breath was stolen at the sight. It was amazing. The living room had long white silk curtains that flowed in the wind from the open windows. There was a warm leather couch resting in the middle of the room, with a fuzzy warm carpet beneath it. It was just the way it used to be... Sitting on the couch was a beautiful, white hedgehog wearing a lovely pink dress. She turned to face Amy, her long white quills swaying with the motion of her body. A soft loving smile spread cheek-to-cheek across her face. Amy hadn't seen that face for nine years...
"Amy, darling. Come sit with Mom."
A tear streaked down Amy's cheek. "Mom...!" She gasped, walking towards her long deceased mother. Once she made it to the couch, Amy stood in front of it, too shocked to move.
"Mom...!" She choked out again. Her Mother spread her arms. Amy finally cracked. The poor young lady broke down crying and pulled herself gently into he mothers arms. Her mother stroked Amy"s pink quills just like she did when Amy was small.
"I love you, Amy. Please, never forget that you mean the world to me." She said, caressing her daughters cheek. Amy sat in silence, she kept her eyes closed embracing the long overdue moment with her lost mother... When she opened her eyes again, her mother was no longer there, cradling her in her soft, loving arms. instead, Amy lay on the torn leather couch clinging to a soft white pillow. The living room was no longer fancy, it returned to its usual grubby state. Amy wiped away a stray tear, it had all been her imagination. But it was the best moment Amy had ever had since the death of her dear Mother.
"Amy." An angry voice rang out from behind her through the chilling silence. Amy whirled her head around to see her father standing in the doorway with some grocery bags strung to each arm, and a case of beer in one hand.
"So, you came back?" Her Father smirked.
"Yes, I did." She nodded in return. Her father raised and eyebrow. He dropped off his groceries and beer into the kitchen and walked up to Amy. There was a strange look in his eyes. Was it anger? Disappointment? No.. It seemed like there was a small hint of... Pity? That was a first.
"Amy, I have to tell you something." He said simply.
"What is it?" She inquired quietly.
"Well, I noticed you have been doing a pretty good job at what I need you to do... And I know you've been wanting to go to high-school, so I've registered you. I used your money of course, not mine." He gave a cruel laugh. Amy frowned at that, but her eyes lit up at the realisation of attending high-school!
"Really?" She smiled. Her father simply nodded, smiling slightly.
"But do be prepared to come home and work your ass off." He growled, the playful light in his eyes fading. Amy was so happy, her smile was nearly too big for her face.
"When do I start?" She beamed.
"Tomorrow," He growled, rolling his amber eyes. "A few things you may need are up in your room." He said, woah, Dad actually did something... Nice for me.
"Yay!" Amy practically screamed. "Thank you Dad!" She said, heading to her room.
"Oh, and Amy," her Father paused, his tone becoming firm.
"You have some chores to do." He said, holding a piece of paper so long, it brushed the floor.
Amy sighed.Hey guys!
