Science, 5th Period

"Rose? Any answer?" My science teacher asks. I look up from my laptop, which I'm kind of surprised he didn't notice.

"Hmm?" I ask. Mr. Brody sighs, and sticks out a hand for the laptop. I stand up, and hand him my laptop. "Oh, and the answer is Mars. The answer is always Mars." I add smartly.

"What is it today? How are you rebelling against the system today?" Mr. Brody asks, annoyed, using his arms for emphasis.

"Well, today I'm 'rebelling,' as you so put it, by using the my class time for its intended purpose, which is to learn." I respond, doing my best to annoy him further. It's not that I don't like Mr. Brody, or any of my teachers, I'm just bored. "And if you're wondering, I just passed my high school AP Biology exams." I grin at the rest of my class.

"AP Biology, huh? Then shouldn't you be smart enough to not use devices in class?" Mr. Brody asks pointedly. The class makes oohing sounds behind me.

"I'm smart enough to use my device to progress myself instead of being hindered by class mates." I respond. The oohing intensifies. Mr. Brody looks fed up. "That's it. Principal's office, now." He snaps. I shrug and follow him out of the class.

Principal's Office, Five minutes later

"This is becoming an annoyingly common habit, Ms. Brynn." Principal Kiel states.

"Annoying for you, not for me." I say. "In fact, I find my system works so much better."

Principal Kiel stands up, placing her hands on her desk. "You think that you, an 8th grader, have perfected the school system?" She says. It's a rhetorical question of course, but I can't help myself. I nod. "That would be right." I smile.

Principal Kiel sighs. In her silence, I take a moment to add something in. "You could just move me to high school classes." Kiel looks horrified.

"Move someone up that much? That would be skipping at least freshman and sophomore year, if not adding junior to that list! It's just not possible. I'm sorry, Rose, I can't help you." Kiel dismisses me, picks up her phone, and I head off to band. Or so she thinks.

I wait outside the door, grabbing a cup from the teachers lounge. "I'm telling you sir, this isn't a good idea." Kiel says. Sir? "She's too uncontrollable." Kiel pauses. The other person must be talking. "Fine. Yes, sir." She hangs up, and I quickly dash out of the office.
