They stared at Ms Felicia. "What?" Lexa asked, half-laughing.
"The connection, dear. Come, quick, we must report this to Commander," she said breathlessly, starting to pull them away, but Lexa froze.
"You must be mistaken. I don't even know this guy," she gestured to Alexander Carter.
"Oh no, no, I know a connection when I see one. It is very rare. Come." She practically dragged them out of there and to Commander's office, Lexa protesting the whole way.

"I agree," Commander said when Ms Felicia told him. He turned to Lexa and Alex. "You two have a connection. What this means is by combining your powers, we have the potential to reach a basic form of atmokinesis, whereby you will be able to control and manipulate the weather by mixing your powers together."
"Wouldn't you need all the powers for that?" Alex spoke up for the first time.
"Theoretically, using only two powers is enough to reach a primitive version of atmokinesis, which is all we need at this point," Commander informed them.
"And how would that help us defeat the Dakai, exactly?" Lexa asked dubiously.
"That is not all. There is much more to the connection."
Ms Felicia's eyes were almost bulging out with excitement. Lexa wondered if she'd had one too many coffees this morning. With extra caffeine.
"Commander, this is such a big opportunity for us to study them and see how a connection works. It rarely happens!" Ms Felicia squealed.
He nodded. "You will be under the supervision of Mr Pascal. You will have to work together to establish the basic g-"
"Whoa, slow down sir," Lexa cut in. "Don't we have any choice in this? I mean it makes no sense. Zero sense. Like, nada. Nil. Zip. Zilch. Absolutely no-"
"The Dakai are getting stronger, Lexa!" Commander boomed. Lexa resisted the urge to wince.
"A connection will help us tremendously," Ms Felicia added, "It makes for a very powerful team, because you have to get into each others' minds and completely understand each other."
"Wait, what?" Alex said.
"Oh yes. We don't know much yet, which is why this is amazing!"
"How do you even know that we have this so-called 'connection'?" Lexa snapped, earning a warning look from Commander.
"Because, dear, I am a Philosopher. I see things."
"You see things? You see dead people too, huh?"
"Lexa!" Commander stood in front of her, and she had to look up. "You do not understand the power of the connection. This could be our secret weapon. Like it or not, you are now part of the war that is inevitable."
"But...it had to be with him?" she said, giving Carter a look, which he returned.
"I hate this as much as you do," Alex Carter quietly said, coming to stand near them.
Commander surveyed them closely before saying, "I understand that you two are not on...friendly terms."
"Oh no, we're best buddies!" Lexa exclaimed, mock smiling with exaggerated (and obviously fake) joy. Commander ignored her.
"But you will have to learn to work together. This is much bigger than your petty dislike of each other."
"It's more of an intense hatred, but go on," Lexa interrupted with a feigned smile. Commander looked exasperated.
"Your lessons will start tomorrow at dawn in the Philosophies Room, before classes. Dismissed." He walked into a separate room that was joined to his office. He rubbed his temples and slammed the door. "Was it something I said?" Lexa asked innocently. Alex shook his head and bumped her shoulder as he walked out. She frowned and looked at Ms Felicia, who was staring at her as if she had turned into a sparkly unicorn with long flowing hair.
"Why are you staring at me?" Lexa asked slowly.
"Oh...was I? Sorry...it's just...oh, it's so exciting! An actual connection! I can't wait to study you!" Ms Felicia said, then happily skipped out of Commander's office.
"You know, a normal person ends a conversation with 'nice to meet you!'" Lexa called after her. "Oh, who am I kidding," she muttered to herself. "That lady is nuts."
