Late that night, Ex invited Lexa and Axel to go into the forest, which covered almost half the camp. Lupusi took full advantage of the crescent moon, staying up the whole night. Usually they trained, but Ex led Lexa to a secluded part of the forest (Axel hadn't agreed to come; apparently she needed to sleep. Pssh, weird, right?). They climbed a tree where they could see the fence that divided this part of the forest from the restricted section. "Wanna go there?" Ex smirked.
"Only if you want to get fried," Lexa answered, trying to see into the dark woods. "That fence is like 10 000 volts, man." He frowned, leaning against the tree trunk. "That's a lot of voltage. Hey, who's that?" They both perked up, squinting their eyes to see a dark figure almost blending into the forest. That 'almost' made a big difference. The only way they could see him was because of his pale blonde hair.
Alex Carter.
There was no doubting it. His hair had a distinctive look that could be recognised 1000 miles away. Okay, maybe that's exaggerated, but you get the drift.
"What's he doing in the restricted part?" Ex asked, barely audible.
"More importantly, how the hell did he get in?" Lexa peered through the high fence. No way he could scale that. He seemed to be talking to someone through some kind of device. An earpiece, maybe?
Ex and Lexa nodded at each other, and quietly jumped off the tree. Ex smirked. "I've got an idea."
"Go ahead, wolfy."
A few seconds later, Ex was right outside the fence, fully morphed into a Lupus. Lupusi were beautiful yet rugged creatures. Lexa stared at his messy blue fur, which seemed to emit a light. His teeth were sharp and pristinely white. Ex still had his piercing blue eyes. When they wanted, Lupusi could blend into the night, which is what Ex did. Alex was walking closer to where they were.
Lexa covered her ears.
A bone chilling howl resonated through the forest, loud and unforgiving. Even Lexa, who was usually never scared, took a step back from her friend. It deepened into a growl and then Ex morphed back, laughing at Alex's astonished face.
Even when Alex did show expression, he still managed to look stoic, somehow. But Ex still laughed. "Did you see your face man?" Ex snickered.
Alex looked at him calmly. "Get out of my face if you know what's good for you," he said in a low voice. Ex narrowed his eyes. Carter didn't talk to many people and when he did he was the most graceless, ignorant person in the world. But for some reason, he had a personal issue with Ex. Despite his natural laid-back, kind nature, Ex couldn't help but speak to Alex venomously.
"What are you doing in there, Carter?" Lexa was close by, listening, but Alex hadn't seen her.
"Having a party. You're not invited."
"How about I invite Commander?" Ex asked.
"Is that a threat?"
"I see you recognise that it is."
Alex chuckled under his breath. "You're pathetic. Get out of here, Fletcher." Alex turned and walked deeper into the forest. Ex ran the other way.
"Where are you going?" Lexa said, irritated, as Ex sprinted straight to Commander's office. He reached for the doorknob but Lexa reached him, grabbing his arm. "Dude!" she hissed. "You're gonna rat him out?"
"I-well, I don't know. It looked suspicious." Lexa couldn't argue with that. Just then Commander came to the door, hearing voices. He demanded to be told what had happened. Despite Ex's second thoughts, Ex reluctantly told Commander everything.

"So, he didn't see you?" Axel asked the next day in Lexa's room.
"No." Classes had been cancelled for the day. Alex Carter was in serious trouble for going into the restricted forest. "At least we get to relax." Lexa leaned back in her chair, putting her arms behind her head. Axel looked anxious. "But what if-"
CRASH! Lexa and Axel jumped up, startled. "So much for relaxing," Lexa muttered.
Rushing to Lexa's broken window, they peered out. Ex was slammed into a nearby wall, Alex advancing towards him, fury in his eyes.
"Damn it," Lexa cursed a few other words under her breath as she jumped out her window.
"Lexa!" Axel chided, following her. Alex kicked Ex in his stomach. He retorted and aimed a punch at Alex's face. He dodged it and did a roundhouse kick into Ex's face. He staggered back. Alex shot fire at his shoulder. Ex yelled as it burned into his skin. He tried a kick, but Alex grabbed his leg and pulled, making Ex fall. Then he sat on Ex's chest, punching him over and over. Lexa ran at Alex, full speed, knocking him hard off of Ex.
Alex stood up, giving her a frighteningly angry look. Flames shot out of his hands, but Lexa blocked it with a flow of water. An epic battle of water vs fire ensued. Axel yelled at them to stop and a bloodied up Ex stared, horrified, as Alex's fire started overtaking Lexa's water.
"This isn't your fight!"Alex yelled at her over the rush of water and the crackling of fire.
"Yes. It. Is!" she roared, forcing her water further with every word. Out of nowhere, roots started sprouting out of the ground, entangling their ankles. A whoosh went by as the fire and water flew past each other and both fighters were pulled down by the earth. They turned to see Axel's hands raised. "I told you to stop," she said, almost crying. "You could have killed each other."
"That you could," a deep voice said. Lexa gritted her teeth, turning to see Commander. He looked anything but happy. "All of you. My office. Now."
To everyone's surprise, Alex turned to Axel and said, "Sorry." He looked at Ex, then at Lexa. "To all of you." Then he turned on his heel and walked to the office.
Dumbstruck, the rest followed.
