Baratheus stood atop the Wall, lost in contemplation as his grey eyes stared into the distant fire that raged in the Sixth village, always intent on setting upon the beast that he had seen reduce his village to smolders and ruin.
It had been twelve years since he had last cried, and that was when he had made a solemn promise to God standing before the Holy tree in the sacred Forest of Ascension that he would never shed tears again, for he would never let harm fall upon those he loved the most.
But now, as he stood motionless watching his village burn into nothingness, he was quite sure that the very last person he cared for had just been engulfed by the flames that the beast had brought upon his home.
Be alive my brother..keep that promise
He had been the first to lay eyes upon the beast, its sparkling scales gleaming with the fire that escaped through its mouth: a maze of teeth as thick as his fingers. Its eyes were enchanting ....an iris shimmering with the dark shades of red that got darker as they pervaded into the core, giving it the shape of a cresent moon.
And not a moment had he dared to waste.Picking up his fur coat he ran to the High tower upon the wall and peeled the Awakening Bell continuously, his mind lost in fear for his brother.
And that was when breathless and weary from his climb,Falinos called out to him.Turning around he saw his Apprentice and two of his squad members on their knees.Falinos' sword grasped in his left hand ,smeared with the blood of those he had slain and his other hand holding on to a wound that a sword had left on his lean left shoulder.
"My Lord, the savages have infiltrated the Sixth city and they have brought with them a beast. Some say that it is a Dragon, but my Lord I thought they only existed in the stories of the Tellers of the Far East."Said the boy, cluthing his wound and gasping now and then. But not once did he show fear in his face.
But the fear still lies deep in his eyes....Fear of the great unknown and fear of death.
"Assemble the 5th squadron and lead them to the East Valley and tell Marvin and Theodore to lead their respective squadrons to battle. Make sure the Archer units are ready for any aerial attacks and make sure the fucking crossbow men assemble themselves on the city walls. And for God's sake wake up Brian, if that piece of shit's still breathing ," ordered Baratheus, as he stared out into the village.
Falinos nodded at the others and they left on their errands, their chain mails and shields rattling with the impact as they made their way to the village towards the roaring labyrinth of fire and rubble.
Although he never liked to play favorites but Falinos had always been one of his most proficient Recruits. He was smart, fast acting, efficient and always there in the time of need.Even now he stood by him as he waited for the others to assemble at the spot.
It had been one such day when he had told Falinos "...One day you to shall sand atop this wall and look over the people as one of the Chosen Seven..sad that it was never meant to be," thought Baratheus before he slid out his dagger and impaled his Apprentice with its gleaming blade.
And looked on as his brother's army burned down the village....his eyes bathing with enjoyment at the beautiful sight and a smile smeared across his face.
And today..Death shall rule all....
