Brian stepped out from his house, trying to make as less noise as was humanely possible, after having left his wife happy in her sweet land of dreams, content to have made love to her husband, thinking that it would keep him away from the whores that infested the outskirts of the city.

From the distant horizon where the Wall stood tall dominating over all those structures that rested under its concrete walls which now grew darker as the sun descended into its dark abyss, came the mellifluous harmony of the singers and the tumult and paroxysm of the drunk men as they gambled, drank and occasionally spent their well earned money on a well seasoned whore.

Sad my lovely Cassandra, I can't seem to lose interest for them,Thought Brian as he took another swing from the beer-bottle he had managed to smuggle into the Holy city feeling no remorse for the ever faithful bride he had left home. The thought put a faint smile on his face as his cheeks started to redden and his mind went into ambivalence and obscurity, the melody that echoed through the village drawing nearer with each step.

Funny, and I was supposed to protect the city from filthy,low-life scum like me being a privileged member of the Sixth Regiment: the "Guardians of the City".It is quite ludicrous.

Although the East side of town was still vibrant from the wine and beer that fuelled the men, this part of town was sound asleep, only a few of them hosting a dim candle burning away as the night grew older. This part of town was where the not –so well-of lived in their shanty homes of damp and soaked pieces of wood clasped together, doing little to provide the warmth they stood there to provide and thatched roofs made of whatever could be scavenged from the streets here and there Brian could catch a glimpse of eyes drowned in hunger, weakened from the endless wrath of the singing brisk air.

Not many people scoured the streets now as they did during the warm winter nights. The cold and frosty winter chill made sure of that and that made Brian feel rather happy for himself and the beer that he held in his hands.

No matter! As long as that shit don't affect me, I don't give no fuck about it.

And taking another swing from his bottle, he walked on.Now and then stumbling as the beer took effect. The stone pavement was damp from the dew that had taken up abode on them and they soaked into his boots constantly causing him to slip. Here and there, the stone linings had been lifted away, probably to be sold in the depths of the town where few cared to venture. The music and uproars grew closer and closer, and above it far over the misty Wall, a warm light seemed to reside.

But wasn't it too early to be dawn?, thought he picking up the pace thinking that he might just have lost his chance of getting laid and that's when an aura of scarlet and vermillion embellished and irradiated the dimly lit night sky as a dark shadow creeping on all fours,it's enormous wings spread out, covering the very last rays of the moon, stood over the Wall and  the world erupted into flames before Brian's dazzled eyes, which shimmered as the dancing flames slowly devoured the village whole and with it.. him.
