''218,'' I exclaimed to myself when I finally found it. I knocked a few times and waited.
Val appeared in seconds, and he looked... Wow! Very hot in all black! He smiled brightly as he opened the door wider for me to walk through.
''How're you today then Daya, did you get any sleep last night?'' Val said engulfing me in a tight hug. The tantalizing scent of his cologne almost made me forget his question entirely.
''Umm.. No, no I couldn't sleep, the flight was okay but I was err... thinking like all night,'' I admitted making my way to one of the stools in the kitchen. I could feel Val's eyes follow me over.
''You look very beautiful Z,'' Val said earnestly, taking up the stool next to me. I blushed. It's weird I'd still not gotten used to his compliments.
For the first time ever there was an awkward silence descending between us. We both knew what we were not addressing. The elephant in the corner of the room was at large and laughing at us! Val looked at me expectantly. What? Oh! I realised he was waiting for me to explain what happened last night.
Oh boy. I took a deep breath, ''Look Val, what happened last night, with Trevor. I didn't even see that kiss coming.'' It was the only thing I could say at the intensity of his gaze. Val stood brooding for a minute.
''You didn't see it coming?'' Val said as expressionless as ever.
''Yes, I mean we were dancing one minute then he started stroking my back and I felt a little uncomfortable at that...'' I trailed off seeing Val's expression. His face hardened and his nostrils flared, I continued quickly, ''That's why I looked for you because I knew you'd rescue me.'' I smirked as I saw Val marvelled at the idea of being my saviour, but he soon closed down again with a pained expression growing on his face.
''Hey stop this,'' I said reaching to cup Val's face. He leaned into it and closed the distance between us standing in-between my legs as I remained sitting. He snaked his arms around my waist. ''The kiss with Trevor meant nothing, he knows I love him, but only as a brother Val.''
Val's face dropped. ''Z we were brother and sister and look how that turned out.''
I couldn't help but laugh at that. I could see Val was trying not to laugh, as he playfully pouted his lips. He's adorable when he's like this. ''I know Val but we are different... I actually see Trevor as a brother.''
Val looked at me as if I were being deliberately obtuse.
''Okay so I know he might have a slight crush–''
''Slight?'' Val scoffed in disbelief. ''The boy is in love with you Z... After you left he as good as told everyone you were together!''
I cringed inwardly. I forgot about that. I hope everyone didn't actually believe it! I looked at Val, ''Do you believe it? Do you think I'm with him?''
''Of course I know you're not with him Z–''
''Good well that's all that matters Val, I'll set everyone straight today.'' I could see that Val was still brooding over something. ''Is that all that's bothering you?'' I asked tentatively.
''Well no, I don't know, I guess it just bothered me that he could freely touch you and kiss you in public... everyone congratulated him and shit,'' Val looked as if it were hurting him to admit this, ''I don't know Z, I guess I was a little jealous, I mean it was like the dude was taking my rightful place. I couldn't go and tear his face ... I just couldn't just pull you away from him, I couldn't react otherwise, you know...'' Val faded off and turned away slightly. Oh.
