Tristen's POV
I don’t know why but Jonathon’s words made me feel better. His concern and love for me were dripping from every word he said, so as we walked towards the gate, I could do nothing but smile. The time before we left was fun, so that must be a sign. Maybe I did need this break away from Limbo.
“You seem pleased about something, do you mind sharing?” Jonathon asked as we drew closer to the gate.
“I’m just in a good mood.” I told him simply and he chuckled.
“Well I am pleased to hear that.” He told me and this time I chuckled as a thought dawned on me. “What?” he asked confused.
“Nothing it’s just that you know you can’t go into the World of the Living talking like that.” I told him.
“Talking like what?”
“You know, all proper and stuff. You need to sound like the Living, so you can’t be so proper all the time.”
“I am not proper all the time. I just speak correct English. Is that a crime?”
“No it’s not but twenty-five year olds don’t talk like that.” He sighed heavily and thought to himself for a moment. “Well then,” he says looking over at me. “Teach me how to talk like twenty-five year olds in the World of the Living. I grin at him mischievously and we begin our “lesson” on how to people talk. It was funny, listening to Jonathon. You could tell that he was a bit uncomfortable speaking the way I do but he got the hang of it. The “lesson” was also a good distraction for us. It kept our minds busy and kept us talking. Before we knew it, we had passed over from Limbo to the World of the Living.
“Jonathon, where are we?” I asked looking around at our new surroundings. It was obviously tropical with all the palm trees and humid temperature but I still couldn’t figure out where we were. The ground beneath our feet was a bit rocky but eroded enough to know that people had walked along here before. The air was salt and fresh, clearly indicating that we were near and ocean but it sounded some ways away. Jonathon chuckled beside me as I stared at him hoping that he would tell me but he kept silent. I huffed loudly and he simply smiled as we continued walking. “Ok seriously, Jonathon where are we?” I asked after a while of more walking.
“How about you look over there and figure it out.” He told me as he pointed towards the west. I followed the direction that he was pointing and my jaw hit the ground the moment I saw what he was talking about. The sky was clear and cloudless; stretching on for what looked like infinity. The water was a clear crystal blue, moving and crashing against the white sand on the beach. I stared in awe and complete disbelief that a place could look as beautiful as this and at the fact that it even existed. I had seen a beach before – well thought I had seen a beach before – but this pales in comparison. “So I’m guessing by the speechlessness you like it?” Jonathon said with a chuckle as he wrapped his arms around my waist. I nodded my head and he kissed me cheek. “Come on, you love the resort.” Jonathon said turning me away from the view of the ocean and leading me along the path.
When we finally emerge on the beach a little ways away, there were multiple houses or huts linked together by a dock like area but completely separate from each other. They sat on top of the water and practically called my name. I moved to go towards them but Jonathon chuckled and pulled me in the opposite direction. We entered a building that I hadn’t noticed before and was greeted by Fijian woman with long black hair and a beautiful tan on her sun kissed skin. She wore several colorful flowers in her hair and she wore a white sun dress. She approached us with a smile on her face.
